Biden allegedly strikes deal with McConnell to nominate anti-abortion Republican to KY federal judgeship

In a move that might make liberals’ heads burst clean off their shoulders, President Joe Biden has reportedly struck a deal with GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to nominate an anti-abortion Republican lawyer to a Kentucky federal district judgeship in exchange for McConnell’s promise “not to hold up future federal nominations by the Biden White House.”

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Biden “is poised to nominate” Chad Meredith to the seat.

Meredith has successfully defended Kentucky’s pro-life laws in the past. In 2021, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld, thanks to Meredith’s arguments, the state’s law requiring doctors to both perform and explain ultrasounds to women prior to them receiving an abortion, giving expectant mothers an opportunity to see their babies before terminating their lives.

While there are currently no Kentucky federal district court vacancies, elsewhere, there are 64 district court seats open, and so far, Biden has made only 18 nominations to get them filled.

Representative John Yarmuth, a Democrat from Kentucky, is less than pleased with the reported bargain that would see one of them filled by a pro-life Republican in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Given that a judicial position isn’t currently open on the Eastern District Court, it’s clear that this is part of some larger deal on judicial nominations between the president and Mitch McConnell,” he said. “I strongly oppose this deal and Meredith being nominated for the position. That last thing we need is another extremist on the bench.”

If true, it’s a heck of a concession from a president who, just five days ago, declared that, because of the SCOTUS ruling, “the health and life of women in this nation are now at risk.”

McConnell, Meredith, and the Biden White House all declined to respond to the Kentucky paper’s requests for comment, but online, the liberal mainstream media, normally so quick to shield Biden from scrutiny, is ripping him to shreds.

“The Biden administration is playing pro-choice in the streets and spineless in the sheets when it comes to women’s rights,” Rolling Stone writes, “and somehow, Mitch McConnell is somehow behind all of it.”

Jezebel’s editor-in-chief, Laura Bassett, called the deal “a massive betrayal to the people [Biden] claims he’s fighting for.”

“The Republicans and the Democrats are playing an entirely different game,” Bassett said, adding that the author of the Courier-Journal is “a very well-sourced Pulitzer-prize winning journalist.”

And not surprisingly, it isn’t just the media freaking out. Amid already plummeting approval ratings and with the November midterms fast approaching, Biden’s base is furious.

“I’m still trying to understand how Biden could even consider appointing an anti-abortion federal judge as part of a ‘deal’ with Mitch McConnell,” tweeted musician Charles Johnson. “This goes way beyond ‘tone-deaf.'”

“I’m kind of hoping this story isn’t accurate,” he continued, “but I have a bad feeling based on, you know, everything else, that it probably is.”

“Biden’s basically giving Mitch McConnell what he wants in exchange for NOTHING!” exclaimed another angry Twitter user. “I was already 50/50 on voting Biden (if he’s the nominee, in a blue state). But I’m just not going to. I’ll vote down ticket and anything that’s not this fascist-enabling nincompoop.”

“Biden should settle for one term,” the angry user stated, “because he’s destroying the Democratic Party.
