Immigrants instead of tourists: NYC seeks extra 5,000 hotel rooms to house bused-in migrants

Instead of demanding that the Biden administration deport illegal aliens, New York City is looking to double down on its “sanctuary city” policies by spending what will likely be millions of dollars to house them in upscale hotels interspersed throughout the city.

“So many Latin American migrants are arriving in the city on a weekly basis that Mayor [Eric] Adams’ administration plans to turn upward of 5,000 hotel rooms into emergency housing for them as the homeless shelter system remains overcrowded,” according to the New York Daily News.

“The plan, which comes on top of nearly 1,000 hotel rooms that the city is already renting for the same purpose, was spelled out in a solicitation notice released by the Department of Social Services [DSS] on Wednesday.”

The notice reportedly didn’t specify the cost, though common sense and the city’s habit of housing illegals in the priciest hotels suggest the plan will cost millions.

As previously reported, Mayor Adams’ administration is already in the process of transforming one of the most upscale hotels in downtown Manhattan, Row NYC, into a shelter for up to 600 illegal alien families.

The hotel is so swanky that even the most basic room, which rents for $414.42 to $435.07, includes high-speed wireless Internet, a 42-inch flat-screen LCD TV, a safe, “signature toiletries,” etc.

“Over the past few weeks, we have been working around the clock to step up and welcome asylum-seekers with open arms. As we previously announced, we’ve been procuring additional emergency shelter to serve this population, and this (notice) is part of that effort,” a DSS spokesperson told the Daily News.

All this comes as GOP-led border states continue to bus thousands of illegals into blue metropolitans like NYC to teach the left a lesson.

Ever since President Joe Biden took office in 2021, illegals have been flooding into border communities and depleting their resources.

To give the left a taste of this same medicine, governors like Texas’ Greg Abbott started busing some of the illegals to blue cities. The hope was that the influx of illegals into their communities would give Democrats a wake-up call.

The strategy has only partially worked. On one hand, Democrats like Mayor Adams have received a lesson in what it’s like to face hordes of illegal aliens infiltrating their communities. But on the other hand, these same Democrats have reached the wrong conclusions.

Adams, for instance, has blamed Abbott for “manufactur[ing]” this crisis, as if he’s the one who’s been implementing lax border policies that have incentivized illegal migration.

Adams has also lectured Abbott, arguing that he should be taking care of all these illegals instead of forcing New Yorkers to take care of them.

It hasn’t dawned on the mayor that nobody should be taking care of these illegals and that they shouldn’t be here in the first place.

According to the latest data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there have already been over two million “migrant encounters” as of fiscal year 2022.

This marks an increase of nearly one million from the roughly 1.2 million illegals who’d already been encountered by this time last year.

Yet instead of doing something, anything, to stymie this incessant flow of illegals across the southern border, President Biden continues to exacerbate the crisis. by pushing for laxer and laxer border policies …
