Anti-Israel sentiment signaled disaster for the “Squad” as dismal donor hauls for the likes of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) intimated they may have F’d around and funded out.
As a majority of liberal Democrats vocalized their support for Israel in the wake of Hamas terror attacks, polling wasn’t the only area where progressives like Reps. Cori Bush (MO), Ayanna Pressley (MA), Rashida Tlaib (MI) and Omar found themselves maintaining a tenuous grasp on their House seats.
A review of financial disclosures by the Washington Free Beacon found that the Somalian-born Minnesota congresswoman’s fundraising prowess had fallen by more than half in the most recent quarter when compared to the same span in 2019.
Taking in around $437,000 left, she was said to have roughly $650,000 cash on hand as the Jewish Insider reported a rematch was shaping up in her congressional district.
“In Minneapolis, Don Samuels, a former city councilman, is preparing to announce a rematch against Rep. Ilhan Omar…an outspoken progressive whose fierce criticism of Israel he plans to highlight in the lead-up to next year’s primary,” reported the Insider.
JI also spoke with New York Democratic strategist Jake Dilemani who said, “This is a scarlet letter that far-left candidates will have to wear. There is 100% chance that members of the Squad are going to be tagged with these far-left positions that are out of sync with the mainstream of the party and the general public.”
According to the Beacon’s review, Bush and Pressley weren’t raising money nearly as fast as they were spending it with the former having only $20,000 cash on hand and around $130,000 in debt since her reelection. For her Massachusetts colleague, a meager of haul of $123,000 for the third quarter barely replenished the $162,000 spent to set her with $186,000 in the bank.
Even before the Squad had thrown their weight behind anti-Israeli protests, Bush’s campaign manager Adrastos André Da Silva had bowed out from his position calling it “The end of an era” as he shared an image of himself with much of the progressive group, including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

A poll conducted by the Senate Opportunity Fund conducted between Oct. 11 and 13 found nearly 70 percent approval with Israel after the attack from Hamas. By comparison, when the terrorists had engaged the Middle Eastern nation in June 2021, only 43 percent backed Israel.
Of the current polling numbers, 62 percent of liberals favored Israel and 77 percent of conservatives held the same position.
Additionally, 68 percent of respondents expressed that they “support Congress voting for aid to Israel in the form of funding and military equipment” as the Squad instead pushed for a ceasefire.
“We are watching an unfolding humanitarian catastrophe as a result of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza,” wrote Omar on X Monday while sharing a ceasefire resolution posted by Bush. “Over a million people have now been displaced from their homes, and nearly 3,000 have been killed–1,000 of them children.”

As Pittsburgh-area councilwoman Bhavini Patel said to JI as she aims to unseat freshman Squad member Rep. Summer Lee (PA) with backing from pro-Israel activists, “Our member of Congress waited to speak out, and then offered qualified remarks. It’s not enough. Western PA’s historic Jewish population deserves a champion who doesn’t hedge against mass killings and unthinkable violence. Her belated statement fell short on unequivocally condemning Hamas’s terrorist attack on innocent Israeli citizens, suggesting they not be allowed to defend themselves. Israel has a right to defend itself.”
