Always the rabble-rouser, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is now claiming the Judicial Branch of the United States government is facing “a crisis of legitimacy” and is calling for the impeachment of Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Clarence Thomas in the wake of their decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Citing claims from Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) that they were “misled” at the confirmation hearings, Ocasio-Cortez told NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press” on Sunday that, in interpreting the Constitution — a Supreme Court Justice’s one and only job — the trio of conservative justices created not just a “legitimacy” crisis but “a crisis of our democracy.”

“I believe that the president and the Democratic Party needs to come to terms with is that this is not just a crisis of Roe, this is a crisis of our democracy,” she said. “The Supreme Court has dramatically overreached its authority. We had two conservative senators in the United States Senate, Senator Manchin and Senator Collins, come out with a very explosive allegation that these — that several Supreme Court justices misled them during their confirmation hearings and in the lead-up to their confirmation.”

“This is a crisis of legitimacy,” she stated. “We have a Supreme Court justice whose wife participated in January 6th, and who used his seat to vote against providing documents that potentially led to evidence of such to investigators in Congress. This is a crisis of legitimacy and President Biden must address that.”

Following the official release of the SCOTUS decision, Manchin, who suddenly is back in favor with the Dems, released a statement saying, “I am deeply disappointed that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. It has been the law of the land for nearly 50 years and was understood to be settled precedent. I trusted Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh when they testified under oath that they also believed Roe v. Wade was settled legal precedent and I am alarmed they chose to reject the stability the ruling has provided for two generations of Americans.”

“I feel misled,” Collins said, according to The New York Times.

“Throwing out a precedent overnight that the country has relied upon for half a century is not conservative,” she said in a statement. “It is a sudden and radical jolt to the country that will lead to political chaos, anger and a further loss of confidence in our government.”

“They lied,” Ocasio-Cortez told Todd’s viewers of the Justices.

“If we allow Supreme Court nominees to lie under oath and secure lifetime appointments to the highest court of the land and then issue, without basis– if you read these opinions– issue without basis, rulings that deeply undermine the human civil rights of the majority of Americans, we must see that through,” she continued. “There must be consequences for such a deeply destabilizing action and hostile takeover of our democratic institutions.”

“To allow that to stand is to allow it to happen,” she claimed. “And what makes it particularly dangerous is that it sends a blaring signal to all future nominees that they can now lie to duly elected members of the United States Senate in order to secure Supreme Court confirmations and seats on the Supreme Court.”

When asked if Kavanaugh and Gorsuch committed “impeachable offenses,” Ocasio-Cortez responded, “I believe so. I believe so.”

“I believe lying under oath is an impeachable offense. I believe that violating federal law and not disclosing income from political organizations as Clarence Thomas did years ago is also potentially an impeachable offense. I believe that not recusing from cases that, one clearly has family members involved in with very deep violations of conflicts of interest are also impeachable offenses. And I believe that this is something that should be seriously considered, including by Senators like Joe Manchin and Susan Collins.”

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) was quick to push back against AOC’s “irrational” demands.

“This is how the left responds when they don’t get their way,” she stated.
