AOC warns we face ‘environment of fascism’ and threats from ‘white nationalism’ ahead of midterms

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) latest take on the cause of inflation may not be a surprise given her predilections for socialism, but when coupled with her take on the United States “facing an environment of fascism” from alleged voter intimidation, she truly showed how desperate the Democrats are to malign Republicans.

Joining MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes” along with House colleague Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Ocasio-Cortez was attempting to promote social equity when she endeavored to assign blame for record-high inflation. Much like her party leader President Joe Biden, she couldn’t point the finger at the policies that she had endorsed and so faceless “corporate greed” would have to play scapegoat.

“Even when we talk about issues like inflation, a lot of this has to do with the massive consolidation of our markets and corporate greed,” she argued. “Our inflation is not going up due to government policies. Inflation is going up due to Wall Street decisions.”

Stephen Miller, a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump, pointed out one glaringly obvious problem with AOC’s assertion. “Weird how prices only go up when Democrats are in charge. I’m sure it had nothing to do with spending trillions we don’t have & shutting down American energy.”

“Also, Wall Street uniformly supports Democrats,” he noted, “so if you don’t like Wall Street you definitely should NOT vote Democrat.”

Many others reacted to the congresswoman’s claim with a very brief explanation of the causes of inflation from famed economist Milton Friedman.

“Inflation,” he said, “is made in Washington because only Washington can create money and any other attribution to other groups, of inflation, is wrong…What produces it is too much government spending and too much government creation of money.”

However, that wasn’t her only claim on the program that didn’t add up as she had stated earlier, “There is absolutely no doubt that the data shows that the vast majority of incidents of domestic terror come from white nationalism. And that we are really truly facing an environment of fascism and in the United States of America this type of intimidation at the polls brings us to Jim Crow, it brings us back and hearkens back to a very unique form of American apartheid that is not that long past ago.”

“And we have never fully healed from it,” she went on. “And those wounds threaten to rip right back open if we do not strongly defend democracy in the United States of America.”

Of course, a major flaw in her argument was apparent as she had just finished suggesting that to combat inflation the government should control the profits of corporations to suit her goal of equity. In other words, Ocasio-Cortez was promoting a turn toward fascism accusing the opposition of it. Despite her efforts, voters have consistently found the president’s decision-making to be the leading driver of the economic struggles and that perspective is likely not going away any time soon.
