President Joe Biden had the demeanor of a man who believes that he’s untouchable, smirking and laughing at questions from reporters about the classified documents stashed away at his home in Delaware on the day of a bombshell report that his Justice Department made a deal to keep FBI agents away from the search.
On Tuesday, a confident Biden refused to answer shouted questions about the mushrooming scandal that could bring down his presidency, a reaction that comes as the Wall Street Journal broke the news that the DOJ initially considered the presence of the FBI to monitor the search being conducted by the president’s personal attorneys for additional classified material but nixed the idea after speaking with his legal team.
After he concluded a White House sit-down with Netherlands’ Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Biden was deluged with shouted questions from assembled reporters with the dormant press suddenly taking a keen interest in accountability for Democrats. But his mirthful reaction could be interpreted by some as a sign that he already knows that the fix is in.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Justice Department decided that the presence of the FBI would only serve to complicate the investigation because Biden’s attorneys had already handed over the first batch of purloined documents and were cooperating, citing the standard anonymous sources in “people familiar with the matter.”
“Instead, the two sides agreed that Mr. Biden’s personal attorneys would inspect the homes, notify the Justice Department as soon as they identified any other potentially classified records, and arrange for law-enforcement authorities to take them,” the outlet reported. “Those deliberations, which haven’t previously been reported, shed new light on how the Biden team’s efforts to cooperate with investigators have thus far helped it avoid more aggressive actions by law enforcement.”
The DOJ’s hands-off approach comes after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a former Trump administration federal prosecutor, Robert Hur to act as a special counsel in the matter, a far less aggressive handling of what could be a major national security matter than was brought to bear against Trump whose Mar-a-Lago residence was stormed by FBI agents in August 2022. And some will inevitably point to the disparity in treatment as another example of the two-tiered system of justice in America, one for Democrats, and the other for their adversaries.
The White House has also intensified its efforts to distract from the classified documents that have been squirreled away by Biden by dangling the shiny object of a sinister “backroom deal” by GOP Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy to sway conservative lawmakers to support him during the contentious process to elect leadership for the new Republican majority.
Deputy press secretary Andrew Bates called for McCarthy to come clean on any agreements he may have made with the demonized “MAGA” Republicans to gain the speakership.
“What other hidden bargains did Speaker McCarthy make behind closed doors with the most extreme, ultra MAGA members of the House Republican conference? The American people have a right to know – now – which is why we are calling on him to make every single one of them public immediately,” Bates said in a statement.
