Crime, terror accompany migrants flooding Texas border town, residents taking to arms

Lawlessness begets lawlessness and as the border crisis has been allowed to persist under President Joe Biden’s leadership, illegal immigrants have continued to flood border towns like a swarm of locusts.

Interviews with locals in Texas and Arizona revealed just how dangerous the situation has grown, setting people, animals and livelihoods at risk.

Try as Biden’s border czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, may to blame the border crisis on former President Donald Trump and to claim that “the border is secure,” the people suffering from waves of illegal immigration know who is responsible for their living in constant fear. People in Eagle Pass, Tx, which has had more than 376,000 encounters since Oct. 21, spoke with Fox News Digital about the need to arm themselves.

Laura Ramos who taught her teenage children to use weapons in self-defense said, “It’s something that has had to be done because we don’t know what can happen. We don’t know these people or where they come from.”

Eagle Pass business owner Griselda added, “We now close at seven because it gets dark, people are walking around, all girls, you just never know.”

Another woman identified as Cindy told the outlet, “I live far from downtown, but in that area, it’s a lot of ranch[es], a lot of big properties…and in order to steal something, they killed the dogs.”

“They are like robbing stuff or killing animals to eat,” she went on. “So that’s what concerns me.”

One resident, Armando, tragically described how they were growing accustomed to the constant danger and recounted how his sister had heard a knock on her bedroom window around midnight. “It’s pretty scary. We’re getting used to it already because unfortunately, nothing is really being done.”

“And of course, we’re grateful for all law enforcement to help us keep protecting and stuff,” he said. “But I mean, with no laws and rules changing, it just stays the same.”

While Eagle Pass has experienced double the encounters from the year before, Yuma, Arizona has suffered from a 400 percent increase in border crossing in July 2022 over July 2021 according to the Daily Mail.

The city of 100,000 people has had an influx of 250,000 in one year’s time resulting in $20 million worth of medical services for illegals since January, an overrun homeless shelter and locals being shot at. Residents, including Mayor Douglas Nicholls (R), slammed progressive mayors who had lamented a paltry number of border crossers being bused to their cities compared to the hundreds invading their area daily.

One elderly local told the Mail, “60? We have 800 coming every day,” and Nicholls echoed that sentiment, stating, “You have mayors from Washington, D.C. and New York City that are complaining about a couple thousand people over three or four months–we’re seeing those numbers monthly or even weekly.”

“If those few thousand people are having an impact, imagine the impact of over 200,000 people,” he suggested. “I think what it is, is a wake-up call for them. They want to have them in their communities, they want to be a sanctuary city. Well, this is what being a sanctuary city is–being open to receiving people. Complaining about being sent 60 people seems hypocritical, to be frank.”

A woman who reported that her husband was getting shot at by coyotes explained to the Mail, “When I heard Biden had won, I just knew the word would get out down to Mexico and I thought, ok, here we go. It’s been worse than I thought. Biden effectively said, come on in everybody.”

“There are many things that happen here as well as our $2.5 billion agricultural industry that are impacted by perception,” Nicholls said of the detriment the crisis has wrought on tourism before similarly leveling blame on the current administration.

“When President Biden came into office, on day one he removed all those measures that were controlling the flow and we saw an immediate uptick. So, it’s not suspect, it’s not a guess, it’s a direct correlation between the actions of the two presidents and how they impacted the flow. Wholesale policy change is one thing but incremental would be good too,” the mayor contended. “If you just started processing more people that are coming across and not releasing people, that would produce a dramatic and immediate change in behavior. Because people would change their plans if they knew their neighbors had done it and a few months later, they’re back where they started but $5,000 poorer.”

Despite claims from Harris that “We have a secure border,” Yuma resident Ricardo stated plainly, “So the situation, it’s not under control. My understanding is that we need to close off our borders because if we don’t do nothing, more people will come, and those people are suffering.”
