Good guy with a gun shoots suspect for allegedly beating on elderly man he knocked out

High praise was heaped on God and a good guy with a gun when a suspect was discovered allegedly assaulting an unconscious elderly man in the restroom of a Texas business.

Located in Centerville, Texas, roughly halfway between Dallas and Houston, Woody’s Smokehouse is a one-stop shop for treats, BBQ and jerky on either side of IH-45. On Aug. 14 the northbound establishment became a crime scene when suspect Kevin Craig Anderson was said to have entered the business in a “harassing manner.”

According to a press release from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Kevin Ellis detailed that surveillance video showed how the suspect, “aggressively approached several customers inside the store and then proceeded to walk into the restroom. Subsequent investigation revealed that once inside the restroom, Kevin Anderson began assaulting an elderly male knocking him unconscious onto the tile floor and continued assaulting him.”

“A Licensed to Carry Holder attempted to intervene the assault on the unconscious victim,” continued Ellis’ statement. “The License to Carry Holder was then assaulted by Kevin Anderson, knocking him to the floor and continuing to assault him. At which time the License to Carry Holder fired two rounds, striking Kevin Anderson once in the right arm. Kevin Anderson then fled from the restroom, exited the business and fled the scene in his vehicle.”

After the suspect was located where he had pulled off on the shoulder roughly 10 miles north of Woody’s on IH-45, he was taken southwest by helicopter to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Texas before he was later moved to Houston’s Hermann Memorial Hospital.

One of the victims was also reportedly treated for injuries at St. Joseph’s though neither the elderly man nor the Good Samaritan’s identities were detailed.

Speaking with KBTX, co-owner Diana Wood explained that during the incident one of several panic buttons throughout the store was activated while her son led customers and staff to freezer for cover in case the fired shots had been the beginning of an active shooter incident.

In a formal statement provided to the news outlet, Wood noted, “Prayers for my team and customers that were involved would be greatly appreciated. We are thankful to law enforcement for the fast service and the capture of the attacker. I’m thankful for the blood of Jesus that I pray daily over our team, our customers, our community, and the team of praying employees that unite with me each day in agreement for protection.”

“As we are reflecting, we asked ourselves what could have been the outcome if those prayers and cover was not implemented. Praises to God for the covering of everyone,” she further expressed. “If I ever had something to preach it would be today and it would be now. Cover your family, your friends, your work, and your school with the blood of Jesus before you walk out of your house each day.”

Both the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers were responsible for the ongoing investigation.
