Hero cop rushed to Texas massacre with shotgun after teacher wife texted him in middle of a haircut

An off-duty Border Patrol agent is being praised for abandoning a haircut and rushing to Robb Elementary School to evacuate children after learning about the active shooter situation there that popped off on Tuesday.

Granted, he had every personal reason in the world to get involved: Both his wife and daughter were trapped inside the school.

“Jacob Albarado, an off-duty Border Patrol officer, was about to sit down for a haircut when he got a text message from his wife Trisha, a fourth-grade teacher at Robb Elementary,” The New York Times reported Thursday.

“There’s an active shooter. Help. I love you,” the message from Albarado’s wife read.

It turned out that “his wife and the children she taught were hiding under desks,” while “their daughter, a second grader at Robb, was locked in a bathroom.”

In response to receiving the text message, Albarado “flew out of the barbershop and sped to the school” with his barber, who reportedly loaned him a shotgun.

“Once he got to the school, he learned that a tactical team was already forming to enter the wing where the gunman was holed up. So Mr. Albarado quickly made a plan with other officers at the scene: evacuate as many children as possible,” according to the Times.

“I’m looking for my daughter, but I also know what wing she’s in, so I start clearing all the classes in her wing,” he told the Times.

“Two officers provided cover, guns drawn, he said, and two others guided the children out on the sidewalk. … When he finally saw his 8-year-old daughter, Jayda, he said, he hugged her, but then kept moving the other children along,” according to the Times.

“I did what I was trained to do,” Albarado said.

Unlike others.

Texas authorities are facing heavy backlash over their decision to not immediately rush inside the classroom where shooter Salvador Ramos had barricaded himself.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Chris Olivarez, they’d feared they might be fired upon and killed. Speaking on CNN this Thursday, he argued that had this occurred, Ramos would have been free to roam the rest of the school and kill more people.

“In the active shooter situation, you want to stop the killing, you want to preserve life. But also, one thing that, of course, the American people need to understand is that officers are making entry into this building. They do not know where the gunman is. They are hearing gunshots. They are receiving gunshots,” he said.

“At that point, if they proceeded any further not knowing where the suspect was at, they could have been shot, they could have been killed, and at that point that gunman would have had an opportunity to kill other people inside that school.”

This justification triggered massive backlash on social media:

A day after the shooting, Albarado for his part reportedly published a post on Facebook calling for teachers to be armed.

“As I’m putting my daughter to sleep, she tells me her team mates sister passed away today and it was her friend also. I’m so angry, saddened and grateful all at once,” he wrote, according to the Daily Mail.

“Only time will heal their pain and hopefully changes will be made at all schools in the U.S. and teachers will be trained & allowed to carry in order to protect themselves and students.”

The tenor of the post suggests he’s a conservative. It’s the conservative position that the solution to school shootings is significantly enhanced security via metal detectors, deadbolt-locked doors, and even armed teachers.

But these positions are routinely mocked by the establishment press, who believe that the one and only solution to mass shootings is the adoption of draconian gun control measures:
