Vice President Kamala Harris declared on Saturday that she “cannot wait” to cast her vote to end the “archaic” Senate filibuster and ram through the chamber legislation that would codify the unconstitutional Roe v. Wade decision and pass voting rights legislation, should Democrats win “two more seats” in November’s midterm elections.
She made her intentions known at the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting in National Harbor, Md., where she delivered the keynote address — an address that highlighted just how much is riding on the outcome of the fast-approaching elections.
“Democrats, with just two more seats in the Senate, we can codify Roe v. Wade, we can put the protections of Roe in law,” she stated, knowing full well that the right to legislate abortions belongs with the states. “With two more seats in the United States Senate, we can pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.”
“Two more seats!” she cheered. “That’s right, two more seats.”
The Freedom to Vote Act was sponsored by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and it “expands voter registration (e.g., automatic and same-day registration) and voting access (e.g., vote-by-mail and early voting). It also limits removing voters from voter rolls.”
It also “establishes certain federal criminal offenses related to voting. In particular, the bill establishes a new criminal offense for conduct (or attempted conduct) to corruptly hinder, interfere with, or prevent another person from registering to vote or helping someone register to vote.”
Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Ala.) introduced the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021, which “establishes new criteria for determining which states and political subdivisions must obtain preclearance before changes to voting practices may take effect.”
“Preclearance is the process of receiving preapproval from the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia before making legal changes that would affect voting rights,” the bill explains.
If passed, “States and political subdivisions that meet certain thresholds regarding minority groups must preclear covered practices before implementation, such as changes to methods of election and redistricting.”
Furthermore, the bill “outlines factors courts must consider when hearing challenges to voting practices, such as the extent of any history of official voting discrimination in the state or political subdivision.”

Both bills are, not surprisingly, designed to keep Democrats in power.
And if Harris has her way, she’ll end the filibuster, which requires 60 votes to pass most Senate legislation, to push them through.
“You know, our president, our President Joe Biden, he’s been clear. He’s kind of done with those archaic Senate rules that are standing in the way of those two issues,” Harris told the DNC. “He’s made that clear and has said that, he will not allow that to obstruct those two issues.”
“And, you know, for me, as vice president, I’m also president of the Senate, and in our first year in office, some historians here may know, I actually broke John Adams’s record of casting the most tie-breaking votes in a single term, how about that?” she boasted. “And so that being the case, I cannot wait to cast the deciding vote to break the filibuster on voting rights and reproductive rights.”
“I cannot wait!” she cried. “Fifty-nine days!”
The one thing Harris got right in this disturbing speech is that the stakes this November are enormous.
Currently, Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) are standing firm in their opposition of ending the filibuster, but with two more compliant Democrats in the Senate, there will be nothing to stop them from passing legislation that will effectively ensure their party will control America’s future sans any pesky checks and balances for the foreseeable future.
