Madison Cawthorn calls for ‘Dark MAGA’ after loss: ‘Time for the rise of the new right’

Outgoing Rep. Madison Cawthorn has responded to his loss in North Carolina’s 11th congressional district primary election by denouncing the “Uni-party” establishment and calling for the rise of a “new right” that he calls “Dark MAGA.”

In an Instagram post published Thursday, two days after his loss in the N.C. race, the congressman both slammed the establishment for having “turned their guns” on him and also praised the small contingent of “America First Patriots” who’ve stood by his side.

“When the establishment turned their guns on me, when the Uni-party coalesced to defeat an America First member very few people had my back. This list includes the lion share of figures that came to my defense when it was not politically profitable,” the post reads.

“These are honorable men and women who are the type of friends anyone yearns to have. ‘At the beginning of a change the patriot is a rare and hated man.’ These are those rare and hated men/women.”

Included in the post is a list of these “America First Patriots.” Seen below, the list includes the likes of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, former President Donald Trump, conservative commentator Michael Knowles, several of Cawthorn’s fellow congressional Republicans, and a few notable Twitter accounts:

The post continues by calling for the rise of “Dark MAGA.”

“There are other National figures who I believe are patriots, but I am on a mission now to expose those who say and promise one thing yet legislate and work towards another, self-profiteering, globalist goal. The time for genteel politics as usual has come to an end,” the post reads.

“It’s time for the rise of the new right, it’s time for Dark MAGA to truly take command. We have an enemy to defeat, but we will never be able to defeat them until we defeat the cowardly and weak members of our own party. Their days are numbered. We are coming.”

Cawthorn’s upset loss in the N.C. race came after weeks of unrelenting attacks from the establishment. Practically every week the establishment unveiled new photos and videos from the congressman’s past showing him engaging in bizarre, seemingly unbecoming behavior.

In one instance, Politico published risqué photos of him wearing lingerie without providing any context. Not until after the photos went viral was the context revealed by Cawthorn, who posted a tweet admitting that he’d worn the lingerie while taking “goofy vacation photos during a game on a cruise.”

The tweet linked to a piece from Cruise Critic talking about Royal Caribbean’s extremely popular Quest game show.

“What Royal Caribbean event has you sharing your underwear, putting lipstick on strangers and screaming at the top of your lungs? It’s the Quest game show, the adults-only scavenger hunt that ranks as a cruise can’t-miss,” the Cruise Critic piece read.

In another instance, a group called Fire Madison Cawthorn filed an ethics complaint against him over a video showing one of his staffers, Stephen Smith, grabbing his crotch.

The complaint reportedly suggested that both Cawthorn and Smith have a “personal relationship between them, separate and apart from the professional relationship of employer and employee.”

“The Fire Madison Cawthorn group, which is operated by the American Muckrakers PAC, also submitted screenshots of what is believed to be Venmo payments between Smith and the congressman with notes such as ‘Getting naked for me in Sweden,’ ‘The stuff we did in Amsterdam,’ and ‘The quickie at the airport’ and ‘breaking and entering,'” as reported by Newsweek.

The most damning footage, also released through American Muckrakers PAC, showed Cawthorn naked in bed with another man.

The congressman responded to the video by posting a tweet claiming he’d just been “acting foolish, and joking,” i.e., engaging in horseplay.

Cawthorn has also suggested that if his older colleagues had grown up around cell phones, they’d have inevitably been caught up in similar scandals:

The congressman for his part clearly believes that the attacks lodged against him came from both the right and the left, meaning the “Uni-party” establishment. And indeed, the evidence suggests he’s right.

In statements to Fox News, a number of unnamed congressional Republicans slammed Cawthorn, saying he’d “earned his loss” by starting unnecessary drama. Recall that in March, he’d accused his fellow lawmakers of engaging in orgies and snorting cocaine. The claim left a bad impression with his colleagues.

“Congressman Cawthorn’s actions were an embarrassment to the institution of Congress,” one colleague said to Fox News.

“Midterms are coming, and Cawthorn wasn’t helping us move forward. I hope he’ll find peace in his next endeavor, but we’re better off,” another added.
