Mob tries to throw Trumps words back at him about taking the Fifth, but he beat them to it

In America, one is innocent until proven guilty unless, of course, one’s name is Donald Trump. In that case, one is automatically guilty in the eyes of the nation’s leftists.

And so it came as no surprise that after former President Donald Trump took the Fifth while being questioned on Wednesday by New York Attorney General Letitia James as per her own criminal probe into him, the entire left rushed to accuse him of being guilty.

To bolster their case, they used his own words against him — specifically what he’d said while on the campaign trail back in 2016.

“The mob takes the Fifth Amendment. If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?” then-GOP presidential nominee Trump had said at the time while talking about Hillary Clinton’s allies pleading the Fifth.

Listen:

It was an argument rooted in ignorance about how the law works. To Trump’s credit, he’s since learned why the Fifth exists and is sometimes used, as he explained in a statement issued shortly after the conclusion of Wednesday’s questioning.

“I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer to that question. When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no choice,” he said.

“If there was any question in my mind, the raid of my home, Mar-a-Lago, on Monday by the FBI, just two days prior to this deposition, wiped out any uncertainty. I have absolutely no choice because the current Administration and many prosecutors in this Country have lost all moral and ethical bounds of decency.”

This was a fair point, and it’s indeed exactly why the Fifth exists.

“It is always important to understand that any information you may reveal to law enforcement, friends, family, or even cellmates may turn into evidence prosecutors may use against you. This is why pleading the Fifth in many cases is the best option,” according to the law office of Joseph Carey, an attorney based out of Maryland.

It protects you from attempts by the prosecution to utilize information you may reveal, and frame it in such a way against you that puts you in legal jeopardy, even if you are completely innocent. It is often better not to testify at all and avoid providing answers that may be misconstrued or that may be unintentionally ambiguous, than have those words used against you at a later point in time during the trial.”

These are the facts.

What you are about to see below is speculation rooted in the type of ignorance Trump once boasted but has since overcome:

This is not how the law works. But when one suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome, the truth no longer seems to matter too much.

Members of the left acted similarly when Trump published a post to Truth Social early Wednesday morning speculating that the FBI agents who’d raided his Mar-a-Lago property on Monday may have planted evidence.

“The FBI and others from the Federal Government would not let anyone, including my lawyers, be anywhere near the areas that were rummaged and otherwise looked at during the raid on Mar-a-Lago. Everyone was asked to leave the premises, they wanted to be left alone, without any witnesses to see what they were doing, taking or, hopefully not, ‘planting.’ Why did they STRONGLY insist on having nobody watching them, everybody out? Obama and Clinton were never ‘raided,’ despite big disputes!” he wrote.

And once again the left rushed to prematurely accuse him of guilt.

Look:

While Trump’s speculation was admittedly conspiratorial, it still doesn’t prove guilt.

So try again, leftists …
