‘Stay tuned…’: Trump campaign remarks on ‘rumors’ of a ‘serious drinking problem’ for Kamala Harris

Ahead of the Democratic National Convention, a potential explanation for Vice President Kamala Harris’ frequent word salads was presented in the form of a “serious” problem.

“A lot of rumors out there…”

While former President Donald Trump and his running mate Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance remained locked in on calling out the Marxist path the presumptive Democratic Party nominee envisioned, campaign team members raised concerns of a more personal nature.

Saturday, Trump 2024 campaign political director James Blair took posted on X, “A lot of rumors out there about Kamala having a serious drinking problem…apparently coming into focus as campaign heats up.”

Similarly withholding any take of his own, Trump campaign adviser Alex Bruesewitz shared Blair’s post without comment as video clips of the vice president’s recent remarks during rallies and past comments to the press and others circulated under the speculative banner of intoxication.

Reactions to the Trump campaign political director’s message to stay tuned were mixed as some raised her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s past lie when attempting to talk his way out of a DUI and others were dissatisfied with the decision to focus on substance over substantive issues.

What was known about Harris was that, during the 2020 presidential campaign, the then-California senator was touted in a piece from the San Francisco Chronicle as the only candidate on the trail at the time who actually imbibed.

Then-President Trump, his Vice President Mike Pence and then-former Vice President Joe Biden were each noted teetotalers, with each ticket topper choosing the lifestyle because of their own family history.

For Trump, tragedy had struck his family in 1981 when his older brother Frederick Trump had died from a heart attack attributed to his struggles with alcoholism. As for Biden, the career politician attributed his own abstinence to growing up with his uncle who was a heavy drinker, according to The New York Times.

The Chronicle picked up on Harris’ membership in a wine club in Alameda, California to which the owner recounted the then-senator came through to pick up her latest wine shipment in her own car.

“I had a true fan girl moment,” Rock Wall Wine Co. owner Shauna Rosenblum had told the newspaper as they reported, “That moment came earlier this spring, while Rosenblum was working the drive-through pick-up line at her tasting room, which remains closed under Alameda County’s coronavirus shutdown plan. A woman drove up in her car to pick up her wine shipment.”

“Rosenblum asked whether she’d like her wine placed in the backseat or the trunk, and she opted for the backseat. ‘Enjoy the vino!’ she called out to the customer,” wrote the Chronicle.

The report went on to state Harris, “uses a pseudonym for her wine club membership” and “is a regular at Rock Wall’s tasting room and loves Rosenblum’s wines.”
