Texas land commissioner says Biden LNG shutdown ‘more like retaliation than sound policy’

Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham accused President Biden of “retaliation” against the Lone Star State for its “bold stand” in defense of the border with Mexico.

As BizPac Review reported, President Biden on Friday announced in the name of “climate change” a pause on the approval of new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export facilities in the United States.

Governor Greg Abbott quickly took to X and called the decision a threat to Texas.

“Biden’s decision to freeze LNG exports threatens Texas—and America,” he stated. “This reckless decision is a gut punch to the hard-working men and women in the energy industry. It also could cause some countries to rely upon dirty coal as opposed to cleaner burning natural gas.”

Commissioner Buckingham suggested the timing of Biden’s announcement has something to do with the current situation between the Texas National Guard and the administration’s border agents in Eagle Pass.

“Texas is the largest exporter of natural gas in the nation and the third in the world,” he told Breitbart Texas. “This reckless federal decision made merely a day after Texas took a bold stand in defending our border against foreign invaders appears more like retaliation than a sound policy decision.”

Buckingham’s office oversees “over 13 million acres of mineral-rich land,” Breitbart reports. “Severance taxes from production rights are used by the State of Texas to fund education.”

“I will always defend Texas’ right to energy independence and stand up for the hardworking families and countless Texas schoolchildren this move will harm,” he said.

Meanwhile, a convoy of truckers are heading to the border on Feb. 3 with the aim of sending a “clear message” to Biden “in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character.”

“The American people have had enough,” U.S. Army veteran and freshman Texas Rep. Keith Self (R) said during an interview on Fox Business. We’re demanding that the Biden administration do its job, enforce the laws on the books and secure our border — 8 million people during the Biden administration; that’s more than the population of Ohio.”

“This is the time for us to rise up as the American people and demand that our president do his job,” Self stated.

“As of last year, we (the US) provide the EU with 46% of their LNG. With Biden’s stupid temp ban on LNG exports (which Texas leads in supply) Biden is forcing the EU — and our allies — to potentially return to dirty Russian gas and fund the aggression they rail against,” fumed conservative radio host Dana Loesch. “Biden is damaging the security of the entire world in a tantrum over @GregAbbott_TX securing the border.”

“The Texas oil and gas industry continues to be a key factor in the state’s economy,” according to Breitbart. “Todd Staples, president of the Texas Oil and Gas Association, reported the industry added more than 15,000 jobs to the Texas economy in 2023.”
