Author J.K. Rowling was threatened on Friday by a radical Islamic “social activist, political activist and research activist” after she dared to show concern about the stabbing of fellow author Salman Rushdie.
After news of Rushdie’s stabbing spread Friday morning, Rowling tweeted, “Horrifying news. Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok.”

In response, a Twitter user who goes by the name Meer Asif Aziz replied, “Do not worry you are next.”

As of Saturday morning, Aziz’s Twitter account remained active. Likewise, he hadn’t deleted any other tweets.
This is important because the other tweets suggest he’s a Shia extremist.
As previously reported, Shia refers to one of two sects of Islam. The other sect, Sunni, is far more prevalent throughout the world, with Shia Muslims mainly being confined to a few nations, including Iran.
One of Aziz’s tweets shows him praising Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei:
Dear leader your struggle for Islamic world will not be wasted until we young generation are with you❤

Additional tweets show that, much like Khamenei, he too harbors a deep hatred of Israel:
Greater israel will soon become graveyard

Regarding Rushdie, his attacker has since been identified as Hadi Matar, a New Jersey resident with Shia sympathies.
“A preliminary law enforcement review of Matar’s social media accounts shows he is sympathetic to Shia extremism and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps causes. … There are no definitive links to the IRGC but the initial assessment indicates he is sympathetic to the Iranian government group,” station WNBC reported.
In one tweet, Aziz appeared to praise Matar as a “revolutionary Shia fighter.” He posted the tweet in response to another Twitter user who’d given a “salute” to the since-arrested suspect.

Aziz’s Twitter bio lists him as a “Student, social activist, political activist and research activist” based out of Karachi, Pakistan.
Rowling has no formal ties to Rushdie, though both of them did sign an open letter against intolerance in 2020.
Published in Harper’s Magazine, the open letter featured signatures from roughly 150 liberal academics, authors, and journalists bemoaning the illiberal intolerance taking root in America’s institutions.
“Our cultural institutions are facing a moment of trial. Powerful protests for racial and social justice are leading to overdue demands for police reform, along with wider calls for greater equality and inclusion across our society, not least in higher education, journalism, philanthropy, and the arts. But this needed reckoning has also intensified a new set of moral attitudes and political commitments that tend to weaken our norms of open debate and toleration of differences in favor of ideological conformity,” the letter reads.
“As we applaud the first development, we also raise our voices against the second. The forces of illiberalism are gaining strength throughout the world and have a powerful ally in Donald Trump, who represents a real threat to democracy,” it continues. “But resistance must not be allowed to harden into its own brand of dogma or coercion—which right-wing demagogues are already exploiting. The democratic inclusion we want can be achieved only if we speak out against the intolerant climate that has set in on all sides.”

The letter triggered backlash from the intolerant far-left, which hates, hates, hates the idea of their political/ideological opponents being treated with respect and dignity.
Rowling has also in recent years faced backlash and death threats from the far-left for speaking out against so-called “transgender women” competing against biological women.
Last year, transgender radicals doxxed her, prompting a flood of death threats:
Last Friday, my family’s address was posted on Twitter by three activist actors who took pictures of themselves in front of our house, carefully positioning themselves to ensure that our address was visible. 1/8

I’ve now received so many death threats I could paper the house with them, and I haven’t stopped speaking out. Perhaps – and I’m just throwing this out there – the best way to prove your movement isn’t a threat to women, is to stop stalking, harassing and threatening us. 8/X

The death threat Friday marks the first time she’s ever been targeted by a radical Islamic extremist.
