Casey DeSantis running for Florida governor is openly being discussed among Republican donors.
Governor Ron DeSantis will hit term limits in 2026 and pressure for his wife Casey to fill the seat is growing, according to NBC.
“I would say this: I have heard donors have been urging her to run, and that while it’s not something she has wanted to do, they are causing her to at least stop and listen,” a source close to Casey told NBC.
“It is a real possibility,” another source said.
The prospect of Casey as a gubernatorial candidate has been ongoing but purely speculative until recently and will likely be ramping up until or unless she squashes it.
Casey gives all credit for the positive talk to her husband and discussed the possibility in May.
“I will tell you this, when people talk about me running for Governor, I think it speaks highly about the governor himself,” she told the Conservative Review podcast. “I think when people see me, it is because they are so happy about everything that this governor has done for the state of Florida.”
“When people start talking about, ‘Oh, you know, you should run,’ that’s because Gov. DeSantis is a rock star and that’s because people are so proud of everything that he’s done for this state,” she added.
Republican Rep. Byron Donalds is also favored to make a run for Florida’s highest seat and is considered a close ally of President Donald Trump.
Some Republicans fear a contest between the two could recreate tension between the DeSantis and Trump camps that have become friendly after a contentious Republican presidential primary in 2024.
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson is also mulling a run for governor, according to NBC.
Though for now, most eyes appear to be aimed at the big names of DeSantis and Donalds.
