Bessent announces stricter rules for tax refunds to end illegal alien kickbacks

U.S. taxpayers may save an estimated $3 billion thanks to the Trump administration.

New rules implemented on Wednesday by the U.S. Treasury Department and the IRS state that only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and “qualified aliens” will be eligible for four major refundable tax credit programs, the New York Post reported.

In other words, illegal aliens will no longer be able to receive kickbacks through tax relief programs that were reportedly being exploited.

“Under President Trump, the days of illegal aliens collecting taxpayer-funded benefits are over. The federal law is clear, and Treasury is enforcing it,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.

“American taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill for benefits going to those who are barred by law from receiving them. These proposed regulations end the abuse, protect the integrity of the tax system, and put Americans first.”
