U.S. taxpayers may save an estimated $3 billion thanks to the Trump administration.

New rules implemented on Wednesday by the U.S. Treasury Department and the IRS state that only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and “qualified aliens” will be eligible for four major refundable tax credit programs, the New York Post reported.

In other words, illegal aliens will no longer be able to receive kickbacks through tax relief programs that were reportedly being exploited.

“Under President Trump, the days of illegal aliens collecting taxpayer-funded benefits are over. The federal law is clear, and Treasury is enforcing it,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.

“American taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill for benefits going to those who are barred by law from receiving them. These proposed regulations end the abuse, protect the integrity of the tax system, and put Americans first.”

Many argued that while it may be a good start, they want to see more done:

It’s been a huge scam for YEARS. They have work auth while their asylum claim is adjudicated or whatever, so they are “legally” working, or using stolen SSN. Claim a ton of dependents so no witholding, and then get whatever refundable credits they can claim.

Many Americans had no idea this was even a thing. And what’s even worse they could claim their dependents back in their native countries for even a larger tax credit aka REFUND.

Where’s the effort to debank them. If they can’t access MSB, money transfer or other avenues to send money back to where they belong they’d leave on their own. They shouldn’t have mortgages either that should be reserved for Americans.
