GOP senators don’t ‘appreciate’ pressure to pass SAVE America Act

Republican infighting is heating up with pressure building to pass the critical Save America Act.

“Circular firing squads never end well,” said Republican Senate leader Thom Tillis in an apparent response to Utah Senator Mike Lee’s call to replace GOP lawmakers who won’t support the bill.

“To me, it’s disingenuous to say we’re going to go out here and we’re going to bring the bill, make [its virtues] apparent to the American people, and then he’s out there the night before we’re about to go on the bill and threatening primaries for people who don’t get on board for something he knows he doesn’t have support for,” Tillis said.

Tillis reportedly circulated Lee’s post to warn fellow Senate colleagues, The Hill reported.

“I don’t have a great appreciation for that,” a Republican lawmaker reportedly said, while another argued that the anger should be focused on Democrats.

“The frustration should be focused on Democrats coming into the election year and not on Republicans,” said the senator.

Lee is far from alone in putting pressure on the Senate GOP, with President Trump vowing not to support future candidates who won’t support the voter integrity bill.

Trump called the SAVE America Act one of the most “IMPORTANT & CONSEQUENTIAL pieces of legislation in the history of Congress and America itself.”

Lee doesn’t appear to be backing down and has been making his case to the press, on social media, and on the Senate floor.

“It would be a suicidal move for us as Senate Republicans or Republicans in general if we don’t put everything we’ve got into this,” Lee said. “I think we need to debate this as long as it takes to get done.”

“Getting it teed up, getting debate and then immediately proceeding to cloture [to end debate] … on the bill would be, I think, a profound mistake,” he said.
