Minnesota Dem Rep Ihan Omar is crying foul over the alleged mistreatment of her activist guest, who attended President Trump’s historic State of the Union address on Tuesday.
Omar claims that Aliya Rahman was standing “silently” when she was “forcibly removed” by Capitol Police.
“My guest, Aliya Rahman, stood up silently in the gallery during the president’s speech for a short period of time, part of which other guests were also standing,” Omar said in a statement on Wednesday. “For that, she was forcibly removed, despite warning officers about her injured shoulders and ultimately charged with ‘Unlawful Conduct.’”
Rahman was indeed arrested for unlawful conduct, NBC News confirmed, but Omar called the move “heavy-handed.”
“Reports indicate she was aggressively handled until someone intervened to secure medical attention,” Omar stated on X. “She was taken to George Washington University Hospital for treatment and later booked at the United States Capitol Police headquarters.
“The heavy-handed response to a peaceful guest sends a chilling message about the state of our democracy. I am calling for a full explanation of why this arrest occurred.”
A quick search on X reveals Rahman has a history with the police, and remaining silent isn’t exactly her style.
Raham had a viral encounter with ICE when, in early February, she claimed that she had been inexplicably dragged from her vehicle for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Homeland Security officials didn’t see it that way and dropped the receipts on X:
Unfortunately for the media, we have the receipts.
As shown in our video, Aliya Rahman clearly had enough room to move herself and her vehicle out of the way. Officers even walked away from her vehicle, thinking she was going to leave the scene. Instead, she remained at the… https://t.co/1z0M4cHWbS pic.twitter.com/bin1mQGHIl

Raham was reportedly pulling the same kind of behavior at SOTU, where she refused the Capitol Police’s request to sit down as she reportedly obstructed others from viewing and enjoying the event.
Plenty of X users stated that Omar knew exactly what she was doing by inviting Raham:
Ilhan knowing brought an unhinged psycho into the chamber, anticipating chaos. I’m just surprised she didn’t provide her with a weapon. They can scream that the person has autism all day long but if they are functioning enough to drive, they should be able to function in society.

Exactly. You don’t get to turn the SOTU into your personal protest stage and block people from watching the President. Rules apply to everyone, deportation talk aside, at minimum she should be permanently barred from the Capitol.

When guests show up just to cause disorder, it exposes the mindset behind the invitation. America deserves better than theatrics.
