Rand Paul struck fear into the “hearts” of the D.C. establishment by offering a controversial replacement for Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Paul floated the idea of nominating X CEO Elon Musk to take the reins of Congress shortly after a ‘continuing resolution’ supported by Johnson was toppled after widespread backlash.
Musk and co-DOGE leader Vivek Ramasamy were instrumental in alerting the American public to what was in the 1,547-page monstrosity, and as one can imagine, the number of taxpayer dollars allocated for everything but keeping the “government open” was both outrageous and astronomical.
Musk’s role in defeating the bill (by drawing attention to it and threatening primaries for Republicans who would vote in its favor) drew mountains of scorn and resentment from establishment types on both sides of the aisle.
Then, there are those like Paul, who breathed fresh air over the transparency and the momentary win for taxpayers. Judging from his post on X, the senator wants more of it:
The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress . . .
Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’…

Reaction to the idea of Musk becoming Speaker piled in and quickly became one of the hottest trending topics on X:

Get it done! ✅ @GOP elect @elonmusk ….We The People are ready for a big change in DC! pic.twitter.com/PdfqiVZDdq

We’re ready!
That’s a great idea. If Elon doesn’t want the job I’ll take it.

Imagine a House Speaker who’s not part of the political establishment but has a vision for innovation and progress. Elon Musk could bring a fresh perspective, encouraging bipartisan cooperation for the benefit of all Americans, not just to disrupt, but to truly innovate and…

Yuge!
But, even some Elon-friendly X users weren’t on board:
Since the Speaker has to be in the line of succession for the Presidency, doesn’t he have to be natural-born?
Anyway, Elon has plenty to do without having to herd around a bunch of corrupt, unaccountable politicians.
Try Matt Gaetz.

Musk can’t run 4 companies.
Run DOGE and be Speaker
For cripes sake….are there any honest people in DC?
— floridanow1 (@floridanow1) December 19, 2024
I propose they elect your father @RonPaul.
It would be the ultimate slap in the face to those Congress people who sought to pass that disgusting CR Yesterday.
— Fed Up Kentuckian (@FedUpKentuckian) December 19, 2024
We have sitting members of Congress that are deserving of the speakership like @RepThomasMassie. Remember, the Speaker is 3rd in line for the presidency if something were to happen.

Of course, there was the predictable gnashing of teeth from Team Blue:
This is insanity. Why would you want a Soros-like figure to have anything to do with our government?
HE is not elected and has NO RIGHT to be doing anything.
Thanks for supporting the billionaires’ swamp!
This is already the most compromised, corrupt, communist, criminal…

He is speaker of the house already. And president. Elon is the media and government. He can take away your seat with one tweet — and you guys voted for that lol
Have a nice day. ✌️

Having a massive reach and calling out obscene amounts of wasteful pork in a spending bill doesn’t make one “speaker” or “president.” It can, however, help you become very effective.
It wasn’t just Elon who was against the ridiculous spending bill, it was millions of Americans. Elon spoke for us because most of our elected Reps don’t actually represent our interests. Elon is a voice for the people and gave a voice to the people.
Let this be a warning to all…

“Let it be a warning to all elected officials,” Libs of TikTok stated regarding Musk’s impact. “The times are changing. You work for us. You better start acting like it.”
Amen.
