Scarborough questions who directed FBI not to follow up with Pete Hegseth witness

The left is scrambling to smear Donald Trump’s nominee for Defense Secretary and their media lapdogs are all in.

The morning of Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing to become the next leader of the Department of Defense, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough floated speculation that the Trump transition team could be working in cahoots with the FBI to protect Hegseth’s chances.

The former Fox News host had been hit with a slurry of unfavorable allegations from alleged drunkenness on the job to dubious claims of sexual assault, and now at the 11th hour, Joe Scarborough wants to know why certain people haven’t been properly questioned.

Hegseth’s ex-wife Samantha Hegseth was approached by the FBI days before the Senate hearing, according to a report by the New York Times. But the FBI reportedly didn’t follow up with Samantha Hegseth, and instead left her return calls unanswered, according to the NYT.

Democrats have tried to make hay over the FBI report with Sen. Richard Blumenthal saying it had “significant gaps and inadequacies.”

Scarborough took it further by suggesting the Trump team had something to do with the FBI’s lack of follow-up.

“The question that’s raised here is who directed the FBI not to talk to the person with the most explosive testimony against Pete Hegseth?” The Morning Joe host said.

“The charges of rape against Pete Hegseth, the police… Again, we all said the police did not press the charges, but the fact that you don’t have this woman that has come forward with all of this information about that California event. And then again, one of his ex-wife’s trying to reach the FBI and not getting return calls.

Scarborough then asked if it was more likely that the Trump transition team had presumably intervened, or Republican senators.

“So is there any suggestion that the Trump transition team directed the FBI to what it could or could not investigate, or would that be the Republicans in the Senate that would tell the FBI, don’t talk to the people that may have the most germane evidence against Pete Hegseth? Scarborough asked.

MSNBC journalist Ali Vitali was a bit cagey in his response to Scarborough, but managed to keep the speculation embers burning.

“Well, we don’t know at this point if that direction was given,” Vitali began. “But it’s important to remember that as one of our reporters who’s been covering this said to me yesterday on Way Too Early, the client for the people doing the investigation is not Congress. The job is not to give Congress the most information possible, the job is to do the investigating at the direction of the client, in this case, the Trump transition team.

Vitali argued that Democrats were likely going to use this information to highlight the “gaps” in the vetting during the confirmation process.

“I think we’re right to lay out how glaring they [gaps] absolutely are. And it’s something that Democrats are now going to use in their lines of questioning,” Vitali said. The thing that’s odd here is that there are pieces of this report that seem very obvious to have investigators at least ask questions about and bring back to Congress, and that wasn’t done here. And that’s just the gaps in the report on the sexual violence and sexual assault allegation, and also things that his ex-wives might have said. But then there’s also the misuse of funds at veterans organizations. There are the allegations that NBC News has reported on, that he was abusing alcohol. All of that is going to be in this hearing that is going to be quite explosive on Capitol Hill.”

While Democrats and their media minions continue to smear Hegseth, plenty of patriots have stepped up to show him support. Hundreds of U.S. veterans voluntarily showed up on Capitol Hill as the Senate confirmation hearings got underway.

The short clip caught the attention of X CEO and DOGE co-chair Elon Musk who said: ‘Support Pete Hegseth!’

Plenty more patriots did just that:
