Top Dems sue Trump, DOJ over voter rolls: ‘Tells you all you need to know’

With roughly two weeks before 2026’s consequential midterms, top Dems dropped another lawsuit against the Trump administration.

The lawsuit filed against President Trump and the Justice Department on Tuesday seeks to block the feds from pressuring states to clean up their voter rolls.

The 44-page complaint filed by three Democrat groups and leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, accuses the Trump administration of “unlawfully directing states to remove suspected noncitizens from their voter rolls and threatening election officials with criminal prosecutions if they refuse to comply,” The Hill reported.

“None of this is lawful,” the complaint reads. “The Executive Branch enjoys no authority to superintend state voter list maintenance, to supplant state determinations of who is qualified to vote, or dictate who gets a ballot or whose ballot gets segregated.”

The lawsuit accuses the Trump admin of relying on “shoddily compiled lists” that have “crumbled upon the barest inspection” and claims to put eligible voters at risk of being denied their right to have their say at the ballot box.

The lawsuit follows a similar move by Schumer and Jeffries in April, 2025, when they sued to block President Trump’s executive order seeking to stop illegal aliens from voting.

“Tells you all you need to know,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said in April.

It still does.
