The latest corporate media “sob story” about a deported illegal alien was deemed “Fake & Gay” by ICE after the asylum claim of the so-called “Texas dad” surfaced with a glaring discrepancy.
At every opportunity, reports regarding the Trump administration’s efforts to restore national sovereignty have avoided describing deportees as what they are: illegal aliens. This week, an example from CBS News’ “60 Minutes” was called out as a deported Malian father of two was accused of immigration fraud for an asylum application claiming homosexuality.
Department of Homeland Security General Counsel James Percival, who appeared in the “60 Minutes” installment where he answered questions about third-country deportations, reacted on X to the report on 57-year-old Moussa Diawara.
“This illegal alien is @60Minutes poster child for what it claims are wrongful deportations,” said the attorney. “I pulled his file. His claimed reason for fearing Mali was that he is ‘gay,’ just in case you’re wondering how bad the immigration fraud problem is.”
Likewise, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement wrote on X, “The 60 Minutes sob story tonight highlighted an illegal alien and his wife and two children. One problem. The illegal alien claimed he was a HOMOSEXUAL in order to try and dodge deportation to Mali. You literally cannot make this up.”

While CBS News focused on Diawara’s third country deportation to Ghana, that reportedly found him subsequently sent to his native country by local officials despite a U.S. judge’s order against such an outcome, a look into the Malian’s record claimed a different source of alleged persecution were he to be transported home.
The “60 Minutes” report shared Diawara’s claim that a conversion to Christianity placed his life at risk in the Islamist-controlled Mali, but his asylum application talked up his freedom to pursue sexual relationships with men in the U.S.
“My asylum application is based upon ground of well founded past persecution and an undisputable fear of life threatening to my person if I were to return to my country Mali. In fact I had experienced extreme punishment and persecution based on the ground of my sexual orientation [sic],” he wrote in the application shared by Fox News National Correspondent Brooke Taylor. “Since I came to the USA I had the possibilities to express my feelings to men without any embarrassment no reserve.”
Diawara insisted he “could be executed either by the Islamic group or the community” if he returned to Mali, as ICE reacted, “Fake & Gay! Moussa Diawara, the Malian national featured in this shockingly poorly researched @60Minutes report, now faces allegations of immigration FRAUD after his asylum application surfaced, revealing that he claimed to be a HOMOSEXUAL man who feared persecution in Mali.”

According to Fox News, a spokesperson for CBS News declined to comment on whether it was aware of the asylum application before the segment was released. Instead, a “60 Minutes” insider highlighted that Diawara claimed “part of the reason he didn’t feel safe” was his religion.
The agency further highlighted some of the myriad worst offenders removed to third countries that weren’t talked about in the aired segment, including convicted murderers.
Roberto Mosquera-Del Peral, a member of the Latin Kings street gang, has convictions for first-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated battery on a police officer, grand theft of a vehicle, aggravated flight/eluding law enforcement, and reckless driving.
