A “chilling episode in American history” has been revealed and journalist Michael Shellenberger is calling for congressional investigations after his latest addition to the ongoing “Twitter Files.”

Monday, the seventh full review of behind-the-scenes efforts at the social media platform revealed that the FBI had been working directly with Twitter to discredit and suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story. Shellenberger’s thread outlined how a considerable number of former agents had joined the platform, were in regular communication with the agency and preemptively readied themselves on how they would handle a damaging story like that of the laptop.
Following up for reaction on how the intelligence community had worked to discredit and suppress the story, the journalist joined “The Brian Kilmeade Show” Tuesday seeking out accountability.
“It’s a chilling episode in American history,” he told the Fox News host, “and I really hope that Congress gets a grip on it and that there’s some special investigations because this has got to absolutely be rooted out.”
Shellenberger touched on the foreign connections to Hunter Biden that had allegedly been given access to then-Vice President Joe Biden and how coverage of those links had been squelched.
As he described it, “What I quickly put together is a pattern where it appears that FBI agents, along with former FBI agents within the company, were engaged in a disinformation campaign aimed at top Twitter and Facebook executives, as well as at top news organization executives to basically prepare them, prime them, get them set up to dismiss Hunter Biden information when it would be released.”
This included then-Twitter executive Yoel Roth attending a “tabletop exercise” with the Aspen Institute in Sept. 2020 on a possible “Hack-and-Dump” effort against Biden to, as Shellenberger put it, “shape how the media covered it — and how social media carried it.”

“They were grossly exaggerating any potential Russian disinformation as a way to promote their own disinformation so that when the Hunter Biden laptop was released, not only would it be censored, I think more importantly,” he suggested to Kilmeade, “it would be discredited in the minds of, you know, left of center Americans or moderate Americans who basically just viewed the whole episode as suspicious and ended up dismissing the contents of the laptop.”
“It’s quite appalling and requires a very serious congressional investigation and maybe a special prosecutor,” Shellenberger went on, “because if what’s going on looks like what’s going on and this is the politicization of the FBI that’s dangerous, that needs to be rooted out. And you need reform of this agency.”
Speaking in their own defense, the FBI released a statement to Fox News Digital that read, “The FBI regularly engages with private sector entities to provide information specific to identified foreign malign influence actors’ s subversive, undeclared, covert, or criminal activities. Private sector entities independently make decisions about what, if any, action they take on their platforms and for their customers after the FBI has notified them.”
As innocuous as they endeavored to make it sound, Shellenberger said, “This is a very disturbing pattern of behavior here by the FBI. I think that when people do look at it, they’re going to go, this is grossly inappropriate.”
