Democratic Senator Mark Warner of Virginia was fact-checked in an ABC News interview on claims about his own state’s voter ID requirements.
Host Jonathan Karl challenged the lawmaker’s assertion that

ABC: “You and every other Democrat oppose the SAVE America Act… requiring photo ID to register to vote, is this Democrats should get behind?”

“Now, I understand that you and I think every other Democrat opposed this so-called SAVE America Act. And there’s a lot of reasons that you’ve put forward. But let me ask you very narrowly on the issue of photo ID, requiring photo ID to register to vote, to vote. Is this something that Democrats should get behind?” Karl asked his guest. “80-some percent of Americans, 71% of Democrats say they favor this.”
“You know what? In Virginia, we have voter ID and photo ID,” Warner claimed before Karl butted in.
“That’s actually not the case. I mean, I’m a Virginia voter. You don’t need to show a photo ID in Virginia. There are wide range of things you can show for ID, and if you don’t show one of those, you can sign an affidavit saying, attesting-”
“You can sign an affidavit,” the lawmaker agreed.
“But it’s not required,” Karl pointed out.
“Those become ballots that, if you want to contest later, can be contested,” Warner continued. “But you do have a variety of documents, but we have voter ID of one form or another-”
According to Fox News, election officers in the state of Virginia must ask all potential voters for identification, which can include “voter confirmation documents, utility bills, bank statements, government checks and paychecks, which do not need to include a photograph.” For those who show up without any of that, there is the option to “sign an ID Confirmation Statement under felony penalties and cast a regular ballot.”
A third option includes casting a “provisional ballot” for those who can do neither.

Warner is one of the reasons I support an IQ test be required of all of our Politicians with an established minimum IQ level in order to take office!!!

He either knew he was lying and didn’t expect to be corrected or is incompetent and doesn’t know his own state.
Pick one… liar or incompetent..???— OlderWiser (@TennTM) July 20, 2026
Funny ABC pushed back on his lie.
As usual, @MarkWarner is clueless to what goes on in the state he supposedly represents.
