According to rebranded MSNBC, Afghan nationals fearful that Trump will kick them out after DC shooting

An MS NOW reporter became the voice of the Afghan community as he claimed they are terrified of being booted out of the U.S. by President Donald Trump.

David Noriega, the reporter for the network formerly known as MSNBC, said on “The Weekend: Primetime” on Saturday that the “small community” of Afghans living in Bellingham, Washington, is “extremely worried” about their future in the country. This follows the deadly attack on National Guard members in the nation’s capital by suspect Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who had been living in the Whatcom County town.

“The concern is that for Afghan nationals specifically, the administration could go further,” Noriega said.

“They could actually preemptively terminate these asylum proceedings, which would render these people extremely vulnerable to detention, to deportation, likely to third countries, because deportation flights don’t happen at this moment directly to Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Those third countries could, in turn, theoretically, deport them to Afghanistan,” he claimed.

The Taliban, he warned, would put a “target” on the back of the returning Afghan nationals because of their affiliation with the U.S.

Afghans living in Washington reportedly asked Noriega to “convey to our viewers that they do not want the American public to associate them with the actions” of 29-year-old Lakanwal, whose attack in D.C. killed 20-year-old Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and left 24-year-old Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe fighting for his life.

“They want to express a profound gratitude to the United States for allowing them to live here,” the reporter said.

Noriega added that, according to immigration attorney Gabriel Harrison, Afghans would “definitely” face “torture” and “death” if deported.

Following the tragic shooting on the eve of Thanksgiving, the Trump administration ordered that all immigration requests from Afghan nationals were suspended.

“Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols,” U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said.

“We must now reexamine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden, and we must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here or add benefit to our country,” the president said last week.
