A clip of actors David Spade and Dana Carvey dancing with some hard truths has gone viral just before the critical midterms.
During a “Fly on the Wall” podcast, Spade took the opportunity to raise awareness about a planned audit that was vetoed by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The financial investigation was sold to voters as a means to find out what happened to the missing $20 billion meant to combat the rampant homelessness problem.
It must have been so refreshing when, for a moment, the California legislature unanimously passed a bipartisan bill to conduct the audit, until Newsom vetoed it.
Spade called attention to the “broader problem” of Californians paying exorbitant taxes with little to nothing to show for it and no explanations from those entrusted with the money.
“The same broader problem with people paying taxes in California … The homeless, [the government loses] $20 billion, but they want more money for it,” Spade said of the debacle.
“That’s why people get tired of paying taxes and going, ‘ What are you doing?’ Gavin Newsom just vetoed a bill asking for an audit of where the money for homeless goes. He said, ‘Not a chance. You’re not gonna see that.’ That’s the problem.”
Carvey jumped in and floated a potential website idea he’s seen “in other states” that shows exactly where government money (TAXPAYER MONEY) is being spent.
Actor David Spade raising awareness that a bill was introduced in California to audit where the $20+ billion dollars in missing homeless money went, it passed but then Gavin Newsom VETOED the bill to block the investigation
Yes, this really happened. He blocked bills for an audit MULTIPLE TIMES
Bipartisan bill AB 2903 (unanimous passed 72-0 in the Assembly, 40-0 in the Senate) would’ve forced annual public reports on where the money went
Newsom vetoed it.
Gavin Newsom also vetoed similar bills AB 2570 and AB 2093

The two actors have openly considered themselves blue dog Democrats. The problem is, the blue dogs are, at least for now, a thing of the past.
X users had plenty to say about the interesting exchange:

It was theater. If there was that much support, they could have easily overrode the veto.
But, all those votes to pass the bill were for show, because they knew Newsom would veto. They could claim they voted to audit, but then say the governor should get final say.

@MrSimmonsSr @DeepLeaksHQ @Katiescarlet2 Performative. They don’t want it to pass, but they want to be able to say they voted for it. Governor and legislature in lock step, but the Republicans don’t have the votes or power to override.

The NGO’s (non profit’s) make too much money, if they get rid of the Homeless or Drug issue the free money stops flowing, do you people see it yet???
These people are NOT in the business to solve anything but where their 3rd vacation…

Never say never. Californians can vote their way out of this if they show up in droves.
