AG Garland vows to fight voter ID laws. Ask yourself, ‘Why?’

Attorney General Merrick Garland vowed to fight voter identification laws and other measures put into place to protect the integrity of elections in a speech to black churchgoers.

On Sunday, the nation’s top law enforcement official traveled to Selma, AL, the historically significant site where police clashed with civil rights protesters 59 years ago, an incident known as “Bloody Sunday” that further catalyzed the movement.

In his remarks at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Garland told the crowd that the rights of black Americans and “other voters of color” to vote has “never been steady” and that the Justice Department is devoted to fighting what he described as “discriminatory, burdensome, and unnecessary” measures put into place to stop Democrat cheating.

“The right to vote is still under attack. And that is why the Justice Department is fighting back,” Garland said. “That is why one of the first things I did when I came into office was to double the size of the voting section of the Civil Rights Division.”

“That is why we are challenging efforts by states and jurisdictions to implement discriminatory, burdensome and unnecessary restrictions on access to the ballot, including those related to mail-in voting, the use of drop boxes and voter ID requirements,” he added. “That is why we are working to block the adoption of discriminatory redistricting plans that dilute the vote of black voters and other voters of color.”

The attorney general’s remarks sparked a firestorm on X, formerly known as Twitter, where many interpreted them as being a sign that the partisan DOJ will be active in tilting the table in Biden’s favor.

Sticking with the race-baiting theme, Garland was joined in Selma by Vice President Kamala Harris who led a march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

“Today, in states across our nation, extremists pass laws to ban drop boxes, limit early voting, and restrict absentee ballots. In Georgia, extremists passed a law to even make it illegal to give people food and water for standing in line to exercise their civic duty and right to vote,” Harris said in her speech.

Never more dependent on fanning the flames of racial resentment as they are now, Democrats and the Biden regime will use every trick in the book to shave points in the 2024 election, a pivotal moment for the future of the left-wing party’s transformational agenda.
