Social media is abuzz after allegations that Politico received money from USAID broke Wednesday morning.
X users are having a field day after it was reportedly revealed that the news organization has been on the receiving end of federal funds.
Look:
So let me get this straight…
USAID has been spending millions of taxpayer dollars every year funding not only the BBC, but also Politico? https://t.co/N6KgJIEeWH

Dear taxpayers don’t you just love paying millions to left wing propaganda media https://t.co/c0ni6oqM15

According to images posted on X, Politico allegedly received over $8 million “from 236 transactions” as found on the site usaspending.gov. Users also noted that this is the same site that rushed to discredit the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, including citing “dozens of former intel officials” calling it “Russian disinfo.”
Politico is reportedly going out of business now that all USAID has been halted.
Democrats were using our tax dollars to pay for fake news businesses.
The scandals just keep getting worse the more DOGE exposes what USAID was really up to.
This is why Dems are so unhinged. pic.twitter.com/6lEIqZqHEg

X users were stunned by the news:
POLITICO has a subscription called PoliticoPro, which costs around $10,000 a year. @politico should be transparent about how many of these pro subscriptions are government-funded.
Given the ludicrous cost, I’m guessing its upwards of 90%.
It seems to me the entire program is a…— Chris Tomlinson (@TomlinsonCJ) February 5, 2025
So taxpayers were funding yet another propaganda media company?..
This is criminal.

Politico received millions of taxpayer money from USAID?!?!
WE NEED A FEDERAL INCOME TAX FREEZE UNTIL THIS CRAP IS FIGURED OUT!!!
— Graham Allen (@GrahamAllen_1) February 5, 2025
It is shocking but perhaps not surprising that the Biden/Harris administration used USAID, the agency whose purpose is to administer the funding of international aid, to fund a left wing media organization that attacked the administration’s opponents.
If this is not prima facie… https://t.co/9xjHLbImfu
— Bill Ackman (@BillAckman) February 5, 2025
Why did Politico take $8.1 million of the American people’s hard earned tax dollars through USAID???
This is like forced subscriptions to a hard left blog that they didn’t want.
Not good.
Not good at all. https://t.co/1A0s56Ogph

Remember when I told you our federal government was paying media outlets to spew propaganda?
I’ve been rambling about this for years.
Well, it looks like the New York Times, Politico and BBC all took funding from USAID.
I’ve reached out to all outlets for comment.

No employee at Politico was paid yesterday.
They’ve been receiving taxpayer dollars from USAID to pay for their lies.
Massive scandal. pic.twitter.com/ovDbPsd34F

I don’t care if Politico got $1 or $1 billion, the fact they took money from government coffers renders them a government-funded propaganda operation. There is no halfway.
We’re learning more clearly that USAID was a massive money laundering scheme by the deep state. https://t.co/mwgvkrswoF

Others indicate there is no cause for alarm:
People appear to be discovering that Politico operates a pricey subscription service focused on critical policy areas and that government agencies pay for that information because it’s useful for them to have more information.

A US foreign aid agency worked with a US media company to raise awareness of issues that USAID is trying to address?!?
That’s so craz… o wait maybe it’s not so crazy https://t.co/lXik6dyaCZ

They also don’t click on the contract and look at the details. Those topline numbers are spread over years with exercised options. If you’re going to shit on something at least look at the thing first so you can be accurate pic.twitter.com/rHl3veuuT3

If you drill down into the actual data circulating here, it’s hundreds of transactions spread across virtually every agency, meaning each transaction was a few thousand dollars over multiple years, adding up to $8M, which is a fraction of the overall business.
