Alleged NYC carjacker reduced to crippled heap after jumping from overpass; women nearby offer no help

The wild aftermath of an incident in which a New York City man stabbed a Lyft driver and then tried to escape the scene of the crime by dropping from an overpass and landing hard in front of three women who just walked away, was captured on video and has gone viral on social media.

The video shows the end stages of the July 11 incident in which 20-year-old Ismael English attempted to carjack the Tesla that he was riding in only to have the driver refuse, fleeing the vehicle after stabbing the man multiple times with a knife while traveling on FDR Drive near the Manhattan Bridge.

After climbing over the side of the overpass and briefly dangling, English let go, plummeting around 30 feet and landing with a thud in front of the trio of women who were eating ice cream and who were unfazed, briefly observing the figure at their feet and then calmly walking away on just another day in the crime-ridden Big Apple.

The Lyft driver, 36-year-old Yadav Kumar Dhungel who was described by friends as a “hard-working family man” and a “perfect gentleman” was transported to Bellevue Hospital where he underwent surgery for his wounds and was listed in stable condition.

“The driver was chasing, being stabbed, chasing the guy who stabbed him,”  Yuliya Birvrayer, a witness to the incident said. “And the guy who stabbed him, he jumped into another car and started to wrestle with another driver. So, him and scare him away a little bit and he just run on the highway and jumping down.”

“He starts to get into somebody else’s car. But he couldn’t actually get into somebody else’s car,” said Sergio Valvovates, another witness to the shocking crime. “Then he starts to fight with the driver trying to take over the car. So, when I came, I tried to scare him away.”

“Boom! He hit his head. I thought he was done,” Serge Velbovets whose vehicle was damaged as a result of the attempted carjacking told the New York Daily News. “But after a few moments he was up but he couldn’t walk. And that’s when he was arrested. It was, like, unbelievable.”

Lyft said that English’s account has been permanently banned.
