American mom’s asylum seeking boyfriend person of interest in her brutal murder

The asylum-seeking boyfriend of an American mother who was found dead in her home in Ireland has been named as a person of interest in the brutal slaying.

The body of Jamey Carney, a 43-year-old woman from Westchester County, New York, was discovered by her 13-year-old daughter in the rented home that they shared off the Muckross Road in Killarney, a victim of a vicious assault.

The Irish Times reports that the postmortem determined that the cause of death was suffocation but that Carney also suffered head injuries. The body was found “under cover,” according to the New York Post.

Authorities have identified 28-year-old Ahmad Alsaqer – whom Carney reportedly met at a pro-Palestinian protest – as a suspect in the vicious killing that claimed the life of the expat mom who moved to Ireland in 2021 with her young daughter.

“Her body had been concealed under a duvet, the room was covered in blood, and Carney had suffered sustained severe head injuries as a result of a savage and extended assault,” the New York Post reported, citing the Irish Mirror.

“Alsaqer, who moved to Ireland in 2024 seeking asylum, is suspected of beating Carney to death before boarding a bus from Killarney to Dublin early Tuesday morning and getting a last-minute flight to Istanbul, according to police sources in Ireland,” according to the New York Post. “Cops are investigating the suspect’s possible contacts in both Turkey and France, where he also previously lived.”

The victim, who was employed in the healthcare industry, reportedly met her suspected killer around a year and a half ago, finding common cause in their disdain for Israel and support of the Palestinian cause.

Carney had posted videos of the couple at a pro-Palestine rally with both of them wearing checkered keffiyehs and gushed about her Muslim lover on Instagram, including “Dating an Arab be like..,” “I’m his flower/warda and he’s my moon/qamar,” and “learning Arabic,” the Post reported.

In one of the last social media posts before her death, Carney shared an AI-generated image of the pair standing in Times Square wearing apparel of local sports teams with the now-dead mom in an NBA champion New York Knicks t-shirt.

The grisly slaying has police concerned not so much about Carney, but rather about Muslims who could be the real victims.

“Because Jamey Carney was a US citizen, and the man being sought is from the Middle East and has permission to remain permanently in Ireland, Gardaí [police] are concerned the killing may be taken up by the US far right and political figures intent on stirring racial tensions in the Republic,” the Irish Times reported.

Alsaqer remains at large pending his arrest by authorities.
