Anderson Cooper’s live shot interrupted by sirens, explosions: ‘That sounded like Iron Dome interception’

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper’s live reporting this Friday from Tel Aviv was interrupted by air raid sirens and loud explosions.

The segment began with in-studio anchors Boris Sanchez and Brianna Keilar announcing that Cooper was reporting live from Tel Aviv.

Watch:

“You’re watching CNN News Central. I’m Boris Sanchez with Brianna Keilar. We want to go straight to Anderson Cooper, who is in Tel Aviv, where sirens are going off. What’s happening where you are, Anderson?” Sanchez said.

“Yeah, Boris, as you said, sirens are going off, which has not occurred here for really today certainly or the last several days. They’re quite extensive sirens. You hear them all over Tel Aviv right now,” Cooper replied as he repeatedly looked over his shoulders.

“This just started about 15 seconds, maybe 30 seconds ago, so it remains to be seen. If rockets do come, they generally come from that direction. That sounded like Iron Dome interception,” he added as explosions began to be heard in the distance.

Cooper then flinched in response to an especially large explosion.

“That was a rather large explosion. That is something we have not heard very much here in Tel Aviv,” he said.

Other reporters also heard the sirens and explosions:

Hamas has continued firing rockets into Israel even as the Jewish state has been busy bombing Gaza. The firing of rockets began last Saturday, the same day that Hamas invaded Israel and began butchering men, women, and children.

“Hamas has long depended on rockets to fight its asymmetrical battles with Israel. On  [last] Saturday alone, the militant group claimed it fired 5,000 rockets on Israel, most of which were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system,” according to CNN.

Israel’s Iron Dome system is designed to stop all rocket attacks, but there were so many of them last Saturday that it was unable to stop them all.

“Some even landed unexploded in Israeli homes. In a short video posted on Telegram, a man shows the remains of a Hamas rocket protruding through a bedroom ceiling. The rocket appears to be an unexploded Qassam or Saraya al-Quds rocket, said a British researcher who runs Calibre Obscura, a website that identifies weapons,” CNN notes.

“Both rockets are identified, the researcher noted, by the groups that use them: Hamas’ military wing, known as the Izz al-Din al-Qassam brigades; and the al-Quds brigade of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a rival Islamist group in the Gaza Strip.”

Hamas reportedly produces most of its own rockets given how difficult it is to import rockets into Gaza, which has been blockaded by Israel for over a decade.

“How the group manufactures the makeshift rockets is less known. In previous battles with Israel, Hamas was known to have fired rockets made of old water pipes,” according to CNN.

Old water pipes that should have been used to take care of the Gazan people but which were instead used to perpetrate terrorism against Israel. Making matters worse, the pipes were built/set up with the help of the European Union.

“The European Union helped to build more than 30 miles of water pipelines for Palestinians despite Hamas terrorists boasting of their ability to forge an arsenal of home-made rockets from pipes. Brussels has poured almost €100 million into pipeline projects in territories controlled by the Islamist group over the last decade,” The Telegraph reported on Tuesday.

This finding vis-a-vis the pipes comes amid discussions over all the aid that has been sent to and is still being sent to the Palestinians.

“Josep Borrell, the EU’s chief diplomat, announced on Tuesday night that aid to Palestinians would continue, meaning €218 million more will be dispersed to the Palestinian people by the end of this year,” The Telegraph notes.

The aid will continue reportedly because of the decision by four countries to vote against ending aid to the terrorist-filled region.
