Andrea Mitchell asks Kamala to her face why Dem leaders don’t want her or her ‘defect-ridden’ boss to run

Vice President Kamala Harris may be watching corporate media show her the door in real time as MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell not only called out President Joe Biden’s “defects” but her “even less favorable ratings” in one-on-one interview.

“They don’t think you’re the right person to be on the ticket,” the host insisted.

Harris has repeatedly come under fire from named and anonymous Democratic insiders alike about the potential liability she poses remaining Biden’s running mate or, worse still, leading a ticket during a presidential election. During a sit down with the vice president as she represented the United States at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Mitchell gave her guest a small taste of what it’s like to be in the hot seat with what should have been softball questions teed up to dispel concerns.

“Why do you think the president has such low popularity, favorable ratings, and you have even less favorable ratings?” she asked the vice president bluntly. According to the LA Times, the vice president is sitting at a net favorable rating of about -13 points, six points below the president’s. “Why do you think that is?”

Attempting to appear nonplussed, Harris shook off the suggestion that those ratings mattered and began, “I will tell you what I see when I’m out on the road. I see people thanking the president-”

“It’s not translating-” Mitchell interjected as her guest continued with a momentary glimmer of irritation, “Thanking our administration. I think that what we have to do is focus on what is actually strengthening America and the American people and American families. And when I talk with American families about what they want and what they care about, things like bringing down the cost of health care, bringing down unemployment, doing the work of strengthening and growing America’s work force, including American manufacturing. That’s what the American people want.”

As previously reported, many members of the Democratic Party have voiced their concerns over Harris, who had polled so poorly in the 2020 presidential election that she dropped her bid before a single primary had been held. Typically friendly, The Washington Post ran a piece where Cleve R. Wootson Jr. wrote, “Harris’s tenure has been underwhelming, [Democrats] said, marked by struggles as a communicator and at times near-invisibility, leaving many rank-and-file Democrats unpersuaded that she has the force, charisma and skill to mount a winning presidential campaign.”

Similarly, The New York Times ran a piece within a week of the Post describing “Even some Democrats whom her own advisers referred reporters to for supportive quotes confided privately that they had lost hope in her.”

Mitchell picked up on that trend as she said, “Dozens of Democratic leaders are saying that they not only don’t think that [Biden’s] the strongest candidate, you know, considering the larger field that could be possible given his age and other defects, but they don’t think that you’re the right person to be on the ticket. Why do you think that?”

With that, rather than serving up a trademark word salad, something she did at another point in the interview displaying herself to be the “master of words” as she called out the “not helpful” Chinese spy balloon, Harris deflected, “I think that it is very important to focus on the needs of the American people and not political chatter out of Washington, D.C.”

Before the topic was concluded, Mitchell challenged her guest with one more straightforward question that left her forcing a smile, “And you obviously ran for president in 2020. You want to be president. Do you still want to be president someday?”

“Joe Biden intends — has said he intends to run for reelection as president,” Harris said. “And I intend to run with him as vice president of the United States.”
