AOC climate documentary bombs at box office as viewers complain about its ‘cringiness’

Unbeknownst to most people, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stars in a just-released documentary about climate change.

Filmed over four years, the documentary, “To the End,” basically follows Ocasio-Cortez and three other activists — Varshini Prakash, Rhiana Gunn-Wright, and Alexandra Rojas — as they attempt to push radical climate change legislation.

“From street protests to the halls of Congress, these bold leaders fight to shift the narrative around climate, revealing the crisis as an opportunity to build a better society,” the movie’s description reads.

“Including up-to-the-minute footage that culminates in 2022’s landmark climate bill, To the End lifts the veil on the battle for the future of our world, and gives audiences a front seat view of history in the making,” it continues.

There’s just one problem: Nobody cares.

Or, rather, very few people care.

“The documentary debuted on more than 120 screens over the weekend but garnered less than $10,000 dollars across all theaters, coming in 33rd place overall at the box office,” Fox News reported Tuesday.

That comes down to earnings of roughly $80 per theater.

Critics like Fox News host Jeanine Pirro aren’t surprised.

“Maybe it’s because it’s so cringe-worthy,” she said Tuesday on Fox News’s “The Five,” speculating over why the movie bombed.

Fellow “The Five” co-host Greg Gutfeld appeared to concur.

“Who would go see a movie that’s the opposite of entertaining? There’s nothing entertaining about that. … But it does show you how great it is to be a progressive in a liberal, biased culture. She really doesn’t do her job, right? She makes movies, she goes to galas. She sits for glossy, butt-kissing interviews in GQ and other women’s mags,” he said.

It seems Gutfeld had a point. While very few actual Americans went to see “To the End” this weekend, it received rave reviews from Ocasio-Cortez’s adoring groupies in the media.

As of Wednesday morning, the film enjoyed an 83 percent “Tomatometer” rating on Rotten Tomatoes thanks to glowing reviews from The New York Times, The Wrap, the Los Angeles Times, Variety magazine, and others.

“Representative Ocasio-Cortez offers the best onscreen antidote to despair — she’s funny, a canny political strategy,” The New York Times review reads.

“When ‘To the End’ centers its subjects… they shine and inspire, even at their most challenged,” the Los Angeles Times review likewise reads.

Meanwhile, all the regular audience reviews were one star.

“I thought it was a good concept of a movie. But there were many cringe points during the movie. And many of the actors remind me of ’90s valley girls. I did see some good points but the cringiness of the movie made it hard to watch,” one review, from someone who supported the general idea of the film, reads.

“This was the worst newsfest movie/documentary I’ve ever seen. It’s so unintelligent from start to finish. It literally put me to sleep 4 to 5 times. I like to give people a chance before I could take anything and I must say this was the absolute worst film I’ve ever seen,” another critical regular audience review reads.

This contrast epitomizes the dichotomy between how the media view Ocasio-Cortez and her ilk, and how everyday Americans view her.

While the media see her as an inspirational figure doing yeoman’s work to save Earth from allegedly guaranteed climate change doom, most in the public appear to see her as a narcissistic simpleton who’s been blinded by ideology.

A perfect example of her simplicity was seen in her “Green New Deal,” which included instructions to stop cows from farting methane into the atmosphere.

She wound up having to be fact-checked by her own political side.

“Frank Mitloehner, an animal scientist and air quality specialist at the University of California, Davis, insists cattle flatulence isn’t the problem it’s made out to be, and says he helped set the record straight,” The Counter, a left-wing news site, reported at the time.

Conservatives are, for their part, enjoying laughing about Ocasio-Cortez’s failure at the box office just like they laughed about her “Green New Deal.”
