The notion that iron sharpens iron was far from anyone’s mind as New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D) recent “softball” interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki still left the “mediocre at best” lawmaker getting slammed for her “really pathetic” answers.

The former White House press secretary couldn’t have been more congenial with the progressive lawmaker as the pair yucked it up on the waterside for Sunday’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.” Still, with the focus in Ocasio-Cortez’s wheelhouse, feelings over facts, the “Squad” member drew flak for whiffing on teed-up questions.
In response to the question, “What do people get wrong about you or not know about you?” highlights of the interview featured AOC telling the host, “When I meet with colleagues or individuals that I had not met with before, they are surprised that I do my homework a lot.”

Dr. Nicole Saphier zeroed in on that snippet on Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show” Sunday as she opined, “That answer, when she was asked walking along the river, you know what is something…powerful that people just don’t know about you and the only thing that she could come up with is that ‘I do my homework.’ That says ‘I am mediocre at best and I will do the minimum possible. I’m going to show up for congressional hearings, and I’ll have read the pamphlet that someone put together for me.’ That what that says.”
While not disparaging to Ocaso-Cortez’s social media activity, the Fox News contributor went on, “That was a really pathetic answer and people still love her. I think she’s going to be a great influencer when her congressional days are over and that’s about it.”
Psaki, who has taken heat for the overtly one-sided nature of her program, may as well have asked her guest what her favorite color was as other featured exchanges included “If you were not in Congress…what would you be doing?” and “In five years, are you going to be in Congress?”
Though the congresswoman hedged on the latter, to the former she suggested an idea that might spur even more people to homeschool their children, “Maybe I would’ve been a teacher.”

“I’ve never seen a politician come to Congress who is more deeply beloved with zero record whatsoever than AOC, and she milks it brilliantly,” Fox News co-host Charlie Hurt added to the conversation Sunday.
Co-host Tom Shillue chimed in, “Everybody knows she’s a phony. But, you know, whatever works for her.”
Social media users were a tad less accepting of the flighty persona while others provided their own answers to Psaki’s questions, including one who suggested in response to the leading query, “They are just shocked people actually voted for her!”

That’s not “homework”, it’s repeating the talking points of the party.
