Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner escaped with her life when an apparent assassination attempt went awry and it was all captured on video.
The incident took place Thursday evening outside the politician’s home in Buenos Aires amid a chaotic scene where hundreds of protesters had gathered — the country’s president in mired in a corruption trial.
Kirchner was filing past the crowd with what appeared to be a security detail nearby, but not close enough to react when it mattered. Suddenly, a hand extends from the crowd with a gun in it and there appears to be an audible click, though nothing happens. The vice president seems to realize what had just happened, as she grabbed her head and ducked down while security rushed to her side.
According to reports, the gun was loaded and misfired. A suspect was arrested and identified as a Brazilian national, according to ABC News International.

Argentina President Alberto Fernández said in a national broadcast that it was a failed assassination attempt because the gun did not fire.
“A man pointed a firearm at her head and pulled the trigger,” he said, calling it “the most serious incident since we recovered democracy” in 1983.
Argentina Economy Minister Sergio Massa also referred to the incident as an assassination attempt.
“When hate and violence prevail over debate, societies are destroyed and situations like these arise: attempted assassination,” Massa tweeted.
