While others set their sights on cyber deals and the beginning of the Christmas season, the weekend after Thanksgiving, tragedy struck Santa Rosa County, Florida, where 14-year-old Danika Troy was murdered. Friday, 16-year-old Gabriel Williams and 14-year-0ld Kimahri Blevins were indicted as investigators allege the pair tricked the victim into entering the woods to be shot and then burned over “hurtful comments” on social media.

During a press conference that followed the arrest of the boys in early December, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson conveyed that Troy’s mother, Ashley Troy, had reported her daughter missing on Dec. 1 after having last seen the girl the day before.

“Unbeknownst to the mother,” said Johnson, who explained Williams allegedly stole the firearm from his mother, “Troy was murdered the previous night.”

“[Williams] pretended to have feelings for her,” Ashley Troy told the New York Post. “That’s how she was lured.”

Details from the arrest report obtained by Law&Crime indicate that a witness had told the police that Troy had “insulted Williams on social media and blocked Blevins’ account” during Thanksgiving break. Williams was said to have told detectives that the victim made “hurtful comments” that included labeling him “worthless and a gang-banger.”

Early in the investigation, the sheriff said, “They have been interviewed, but the motive that we’re getting doesn’t fit the forensics or any facts of the case.”

After previously being detained at Santa Rosa Juvenile Detention Center since the beginning of December, the pair are being treated as adults, indicted for First Degree Premeditated Murder. They were relocated to Santa Rosa County Jail, where they are to be held without bail until their scheduled arraignment on Jan. 8, 2026.

Speaking with the Post, Troy expressed, “I don’t blame those boys. I blame evil influence. I don’t hate them, I hate what they did to my baby.”

“Every other day, every new wave of pain and denial of how this could be real — my baby, killed. It’s nothing I ever imagined, my worst nightmare,” she went on before addressing how, with only days before Christmas, with one less stocking, she and the victim’s sister were left dealing with the new absence. “There’s an emptiness where we were once three and are now just two.”

As of yet, no charges have been reportedly filed against the parents, and as the two boys face the potential of life in prison or the death penalty if convicted, Troy said, “I pray they get the maximum penalty.”

A crowdfunding effort to support the grieving family has raised over $30,000 as of Monday morning.
