Ben Shapiro: Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly are not leading a MAGA revolt with ‘fringe audiences’

The premise that select commentators could prove a problem for the president with his base had Ben Shapiro offering simple advice:

“People need to touch grass.”

An oft repeated formula for corporate media in its never-ending struggle with Trump Derangement Syndrome involves elevating a detractor from the right while positioning them as some sort of chosen ambassador for conservative Americans.

However, exponentially increased by the influence of social media, the Daily Wire co-founder concluded, the notion that talking heads like Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson or Candace Owens could impact foreign policy in the Middle East was “insane.”

Appearing with Fox News co-anchor Jacqui Heinrich on “The Sunday Briefing,” Shapiro was presented with President Donald Trump’s Truth Social post calling out the aforementioned commentators, as well as Alex Jones, deeming them “NUT JOBS” with “Low IQs” over his approach to addressing Iran’s Islamist regime and nuclear capabilities.

“Those people, though, do have considerable social followings. How big of an issue do you take this to be for the Republican base?” asked Heinrich.

“I don’t think it’s a major issue for the Republican base,” replied Shapiro. “I think the president is exactly right to call this out for what it is, which is people who have fringe audiences — they have large numbers — but fringe audiences in terms of the broader overall Republican audience. Multiple polls have shown over the course of the last month and a half that the president has 80-90% support inside the Republican Party for his actions in Iran.”

He went on to raise the findings of a J.L. Partners survey that determined only 6% of Republicans were aligned with the position against Trump’s foreign policy and said, “I think the idea that these folks are going to be able to undermine broad scale support for a war that will reach its terminus sometime in the next couple of months, I think that’s insane. And the attempt to turn this into a referendum on the midterm elections, number one, ignores the fact that there are a lot of other factors in midterm elections and number two, we’ll go through about a thousand news cycles between now and November when the election actually takes place.”

Shapiro went on to argue against echo chambers on the internet as he said, “I think the algorithmic disconnect is quite real … People need to touch grass.”

“Go talk to the people you go to church with and what you will find out is that most of those people agree with the president of the United States,” he went on. “The vast majority of conservatives have agreed for 50 years that the Iranian regime is a threat to the United States, to its allies, to the region and to the world, and this president is making the bravest foreign policy move of my lifetime in actually keeping a promise that he made back in 1980 that he would take on the Iranian regime if ever he got the power.”

Of Kelly in particular, in late March, she’d called for “accountability” for those alleged to have stirred the president to act on Iran, naming both Shapiro and radio host Mark Levin on her list. Last week, having contended the Iranians proved “tough m-fers” against Trump’s strikes, she also claimed Levin “would like to have me killed” and that he’d “be thrilled to seem e taken out.”

In response, Levin, who would later share Trump’s scathing Truth Social post with the caption “BOOM!!!!!!!!” suggested, “Megyn, can we at least agree that I absolutely do not want, and would never want, any harm to come to you. And I have never said otherwise and would never say otherwise. I suggest we turn down the heat.”
