Bernie Sanders faces apology demands over Platner controversy

U.S. Sen. John Fetterman called on Democrats and left-leaning lawmakers like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to apologize to voters for backing Graham Platner, whom he blasted as a “total piece of trash.”

The Pennsylvania Democrat reacted to the former Maine Democratic Senate candidate’s decision to end his race against incumbent GOP Sen. Susan Collins during a Fox News interview, declaring “adios, trashbag.”

Fetterman celebrated the end of Platner’s race as he ripped into Sanders and others who continued to go to bat for the candidate whose campaign was unraveling amid multiple scandals and accusations.

“The trash took itself out tonight. And now, finally, people in Maine have a chance to really vote on someone that’s not a total piece of trash,” Fetterman told guest host Charlie Hurt on “Jesse Watters Primetime” Wednesday.

“No one wants you anymore. I’m like, bro, you are an accused rapist,” Fetterman said of Platner, criticizing his release of an 11-minute video explaining his decision to suspend his campaign. “No one cares what you think. You are going straight back into oblivion.”

“To give that weird long speech and pretend like people will miss you?” Fetterman said. “No one’s going to forget you other than [as] the guy that was pushed out of the election because a woman credibly accused you of raping her. So that’s his legacy.”

The senator added that Platner was always a “dead man walking,” dropping a brutal reality check on the former candidate who seems to think he is the victim.

“P Hustle, bro, you will ONLY be remembered as the accused rapist that got pushed out of your election. That’s your legacy, bro! You’re the guy that cheats on your wife. You’re the guy that roughs up your ex-girlfriends,” Fetterman continued, telling Platner to “Go back under that rock that you came from.”

But Fetterman’s scorn was not just for the former Senate hopeful, as he rebuked Sanders and others for “pushing these communists.”

“What Democrats, like, saw in that trash bag — what did they see in this guy?” he asked. “Was it the Nazi tattoo, was it the gross messages online, the way he roughs up women?”

**WARNING: Language**

When asked if he could name leadership in the Democratic Party he would hold responsible for allowing Platner to get so far, Fetterman declared, “Absolutely!”

“Bernie Sanders needs to apologize to the voters of Maine and to, you know, everyone who donated to that trainwreck of a campaign,” he said, contending that Sanders “pushed” Platner to run “more than anyone.”

“He keeps pushing these communists and these kinda awful anti-American people, so there’s plenty of those people that have to humble themselves, you know, humble yourself and stop pushing, you know, these kinds of people on people in my party,” Fetterman concluded.
