Despite harping on former President Donald Trump’s indictment since it was announced, corporate media traded it for a nothing burger Easter Sunday as they instead advanced their attacks against his lawyers over another case.

President Joe Biden may have been allowed the luxury of hosting the annual Easter Egg Roll despite his own classified document scandal, but frivolity was not in store for Trump attorney Jim Trusty as he made the rounds on Sunday shows. Responsible for handling the case being built against the former president over documents that were held at his Palm Beach, Florida residence at Mar-a-Lago dramatically obtained in an FBI raid, Trusty was asked for assurances from the media.
“So, you — you represent the former president in the classified documents case. Can — can you tell me, just point blank, are you 100 percent certain that Donald Trump no longer has classified documents in his possession?” asked ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl on “This Week.”
“Yes. And — and, you know, what’s been publicly put out there, through incredible amounts of leaks from the DOJ and FBI, was they — they started making mention of some of the follow-up searches to comply with the subpoena that were undertaken by our team with very professional searchers. And every step of the way, if we found anything of interest, even if it’s probably not classified, we’ve turned it over to the FBI and DOJ,” Trusty explained. “So, we’ve been thorough, we’ve been professional, we’ve been ethical, and we’re satisfied that, you know, there’s no — no outstanding issue relating to compliance with the subpoena.”
Unsatisfied, Karl repeated, “So, no more classified documents in his possession? They’ve all been turned over?”
“Correct,” the lawyer said before turning the tables to Biden’s scandal and the politicized investigations of Trump. “But, you know, as the president made the point the other night, you know, the Presidential Records Act allows presidents to determine what’s personal and what’s presidential. And that dictates how they relate to the archivist who, in this case, was extremely politicized against Donald Trump, making criminal referrals for the first time in history when there’s no criminal overlay for the Presidential Records Act.”
“So, we’ve had some real bad faith in the underpinnings of how this thing got started, the use of criminal investigative tools for what is a civil dispute. And so, again, you know, we’ve done what’s right when it comes to the court proceedings and to knocking out the issue of whether there’s anything standing. And it also shows there’s no obstruction going on. So, I think we’re in a good place if the facts actually come out,” Trusty concluded to Karl.
The anchor continued his press over the documents when he brought in former Attorney General Bill Barr and asked of the varied cases “…which would you be most concerned about?”
As he had said previously, Barr noted, “I’d be most concerned about the documents case in Mar-a-Lago because, from what I can see, and…when it first came out, a lot of Republicans manned the ramparts and were dumping all over the FBI and the government, and as the facts have come out, as I suggested when I spoke about it, the FBI was opposed to conducting the search. They weren’t involved in launching the search.”
Barr had also previously asserted that he would not want to see Trump take the stand out of concern that “he lacks all self-control. It’d be very difficult to prepare him and keep him testifying in a prudent fashion.”

Meanwhile, Trusty took more fire on NBC News when he was pushed by anchor Chuck Todd who accused Trump of holding out for money.
“Does the former — does Donald Trump think he should get paid? Is that what’s going on here because Nixon got paid $18 million? He wants — is he just holding these documents for some sort of financial settlement?” Todd tried.

“Ah,” the attorney started, “that’s just a cheap shot. Look if you’re-”
“He keeps bringing up this Nixon thing,” Todd interjected, reaching back again. “What other reason is there for bringing it up?”
Trusty wasn’t afraid to fire back as he laid out, “Let’s go, let’s go more modern day because you’re right about the time of the Presidential Records Act. Bill Clinton had multiple recordings he kept in a sock drawer of his presidency while in the Oval Office, talking to foreign leaders, talking to advisers.”
“Obama Foundation had millions of documents in a former — I think furniture store out in Illinois,” he went on. “Arguable whether it was ever really truly secured. They acknowledge that they had classified documents probably to the tune of thousands and there was never any blink by NARA. They, in fact, said we’re going to give NARA $3.3 million to help move these documents back eventually when we have a digitized library. That’s never happened. Now the payments may have happened, but that’s never happened,” he continued.
“NARA was perfectly comfortable accepting money for a move that won’t happen for thousands of classified documents in some place near a McDonald’s in Illinois and never blinked. Never any criminal tools, never any criminal referrals. So look, this is — this has rotten underpinnings in terms of bureaucrats being politicized, followed up by an all too eager DOJ to criminalize something that’s not a crime. That was the point of the president’s comments,” Trusty concluded on that point.
For his troubles, Trump came to the attorney’s defense on Truth Social and posted some praise Sunday.
“Great job today by highly respected attorney Jim Trusty on ‘Meet the Fake Press,’ hosted by highly partisan Democrat anchor ‘Sleepy Eyes’ Chuck Todd, and also on This Week with George Slopahopoulous, hosted by the very weak and ineffective ‘anchor,’ Johnny Carl,” he wrote. “Trusty took them apart on the Boxes Hoax saying, among other things, that Biden is the one who has problems, not President Trump. I come under the NON CRIMINAL Presidential Records Act, Biden doesn’t. He has CHINATOWN BOXES & 1850 BOXES!”
