Biden finally addresses horrific Maui tragedy a week later while planning yet another vacay

President Biden finally addressed the tragic wildfire in Maui on Tuesday as he made plans to go on yet another vacation… this time to Lake Tahoe.

The death toll has now risen to 106, according to the Daily Mail. But more than 1,000 are still unaccounted for and the number of deaths is expected to rise. The hellish landscape of Lahaina is a testament to the devastation that occurred there.

As the president proclaimed that he and the first lady would visit Maui as soon as they could, he mentioned fires on the Big Island of Hawaii as well before referring to Maui.

“The Army helicopters helped fire suppression efforts on the Big Island because there’s still some burning on the Big Island — not the one that, not the one where you see on television all the time,” Biden said.

“My wife Jill and I are going to travel to Hawaii as soon as we can. That’s what I’ve been talking to the governor about. I don’t want to get in the way. I’ve been to too many disaster areas. But I want to go make sure we got everything they need. Want to be sure we don’t disrupt the ongoing recovery efforts,” Biden asserted in his speech.

You always hear this phrase, and I’ve been to so many disasters in my career, it’s almost hollow, but our prayers, our thoughts, and prayers are with the people of Hawaii – but not just our prayers, every asset, every asset they need will be there for them. And we’ll be there in Maui as long as it takes, as long as it takes, and I mean that sincerely,” the president said.

A week after the horror that befell Maui, the Biden administration reportedly declared a Federal Emergency, and FEMA announced it would send $700 to each affected household. That announcement ironically came on the same day that the president pledged billions more to Ukraine.

Sunday, when asked about the cataclysmic fire by reporters, Biden responded “No comment,” enraging Americans over his seeming lack of empathy for Hawaiians. He was asked that question after spending two hours on the beach in Delaware, soaking up the sun.

Kaniela Ing, who is a Democratic former member of Hawaii’s state legislature, was not happy with the Biden administration’s response, “I campaigned for you. Now, when I lose dozens of my friends, family, and neighbors – this?”

The Hill noted, “The president ran as the empathetic politician who shines in times of crisis, but his reaction to Maui has left political watchers wondering where that Biden has gone.”

Former President Trump called Biden’s handling of the crisis “disgraceful,” adding that the president “refuses to help or comment on the tragedy in Maui.”

Trump compared Biden’s response in Maui to his response to East Palestine, Ohio’s train derailment in February. Biden has still not visited that area despite saying he would eventually. The White House at the time treated that disaster similarly to Maui, focusing their message on a quick federal response on the ground.

As a mobile morgue finally arrived in Hawaii, Biden continued with his plans for Lake Tahoe.

Biden will fly into Tahoe on Friday and spend a week on the Nevada side of the lake, according to the White House. He will reportedly be booked into the Regency Hyatt at the Incline Village, according to the Nevada Globe. The president will most likely use the Truckee-Tahoe airport according to CBS News.

Another possible Biden home base is the gated community of Glenbrook, Nevada, which is home to some of Tahoe’s wealthiest residents.

The president is expected to spend nearly a week in Tahoe starting on Friday, according to ABC7 News. He will travel to Tahoe after meeting with the leaders of South Korea and Japan at Camp David.

ABC7 News reported, “The White House has not released a reason for the visit, but it comes just a few weeks after his administration allocated more than $3 billion to help fight invasive species from spreading at Lake Tahoe.”
