Despite his deep unpopularity with much of America, President Joe Biden is widely expected to cruise to the party’s 2024 nomination with little resistance from his own party although self-help guru Marianne Williamson may have something to say about his coronation.
On Saturday, the bestselling author and spiritual leader made it official after mulling an entry into the race for a longshot bid to unseat the party’s incumbent in what isn’t likely to be a very crowded primary process, making her the first Democrat to challenge Biden who has yet to announce his reelection bid although it has been widely assumed to be a certainty.
“I, as of today, am a candidate for the office of president of the United States,” she said, launching her campaign with a speech to supporters at Washington, D.C.’s historic Union Station in which she spoke of an economy that has been decimated by Biden and his fellow Democrats’ policies which have contributed to staggering inflation, especially when it comes to food, energy and housing.
She also used her speech to paint the America’s systemic problems with a broader brush.

“The reason we have such a problem today is because it is not one specific institution that plagues us and that opposes real democracy and that opposes the equality of people and of economic justice, that opposes the very principles on which we stand. It’s not one institution this time. It’s like an atomizer spray of economic injustice,” she said.
The rough road that awaits for Williamson was made evident by Biden loyalists who were quick to send a message that her path to the nomination will be fiercely opposed by those in her own party.
“The media needs to stop legitimizing Marianne Williamson’s campaign for President,” wrote Democrat activist and lawyer Aaron Parnas in a since-deleted tweet reported by Fox News. “President Biden has been one of the most revolutionary Presidents in recent history and has the full support of Democrats across America. There is no legitimate primary. Biden is our nominee.”
Another who was rudely dismissive of the legitimacy of Williamson was Voters of Tomorrow executive director Santiago Mayer who trashed her a “joke” who is only in it for the cynical reason of selling her books.
“Let’s be clear: Marianne Williamson is a joke,” he wrote. “She’s a fundamentally unserious candidate running as a stunt to sell her books.”

Mayer applied his scorn in layers, ridiculing Williamson’s spirituality with another job at her improbable candidacy.

“The best way to handle her is to not address her at all,” said former Biden delegate and political commentator Lindy Li on MSNBC after Williamson made her announcement.
A more formidable opponent could potentially be waiting in the wings with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of slain former Democrat presidential candidate Bobby Kennedy who was shot in the head by an assassin in 1968 as he was on his way to clinching the party’s nomination.

The presence of any challengers will be treated as a nuisance by the media with Biden’s candidacy being all but chiseled in stone, a fact that was made clear when the DNC moved the South Carolina primary to the front of the line next year to allow the race-baiter in chief to use the Palmetto State’s black vote as a launching pad for his reelection bid.
