The commander in creep was at it again Tuesday with a baffling response from President Joe Biden to a question on his COVID emergency end date that left him up close and personal and holding the reporter’s hand.

It was a rainy morning in Washington, D.C. as the president departed the White House on his way to New York City where he would go on to make an infrastructure speech before attending a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. But a funny thing happened on the way to Marine One as Biden stepped out toward the South Lawn and veered off course to get cozy with NBC News White House correspondent Kristen Welker under her umbrella.
As she asked “What’s behind your decision to end the COVID emergency?” Biden closed in on her until he was standing with his hand on her hand, grinning like the star of a RomCom, asking back “What did you say?”
Welker repeated her question and the exchange only got weirder as the president appeared to confuse his announcement that the COVID emergency declaration would officially end on May 11 with the ongoing legal fight to end the Title 42 emergency deportation powers.
“The COVID emergency will end when the Supreme Court ends it,” Biden stated. “We’ve extended it to May the 15th to make sure we get everything done. That’s all. There’s nothing behind it all.”
The same day, the House of Representatives passed two related bills with the Pandemic is Over Act, 220-210, meant to end the emergency sooner, and the Freedom for Health Care Workers Act, 227-203, to get rid of the COVID cocktail mandate for federal health care workers.
The White House has said, “While COVID-19 is no longer the disruptive threat that it once was, it makes no sense for Congress to reverse this protection for vulnerable patients, as well as our health care workers who have given so much to protect us.”
Meanwhile, others were still stuck on the way that Biden had interacted with Welker, including The Spectator’s Stephen Miller who suggested how the media would have responded if former President Donald Trump did the same writing, “Trump assaults female journalist,” before calling out the sycophantic demeanor of the press, “The way they all just smile at him.. JFC…”

Naturally, corporate media played it off as totally normal with Welker proudly sharing a still of the encounter online with the caption, “A rainy departure q and a with @POTUS Thanks to @dougmillsnyt for capturing this shot,”

Despite Welker’s display of delight, another person suggested what Biden did was, “Typical old-man-predator behavior. They grab your hand in their bony claws and clamp down. Then invade your space. The more you try to get free, the tighter they grip. They will squeeze until you wrestle free or yell out in pain. Yes, I’m speaking from experience.”
