As the assassination attempt on Trump simmered down talks to replace Biden on the campaign trail, a new report detailed a call moments earlier that allegedly left “50…ready to come out publicly against him.”
Heading into Saturday, the writing still appeared very much on the wall that President Joe Biden’s candidacy, and quite possibly his presidency, would have the plug pulled after failing to contain the fallout from his disastrous debate.
This included a Zoom call with moderate Democrats that took place within an hour of former President Donald Trump’s brush with death where congressional members lost “a ton of respect for him.”
Speaking with Puck, a number of participants on the call recounted, “The call was even worse than the debate. He was rambling; he’d start an answer then lose his train of thought, then would just say ‘whatever.’ I lost a ton of respect for him.”
A noteworthy anecdote shared by a Democrat explained how Biden attacked combat veteran Colorado Rep. Jason Crow’s record and retreated to his favored fallback, bringing up his late son, Beau Biden.
“The president was rambling, dismissive of concerns, unable or unprepared to present a campaign strategy, and had a particularly troubling exchange with Jason Crow, saying to him, ‘Tell me something you’ve never done with your Bronze Star like my son — and I’m proud of your leadership, but guess what, what’s happening, we’ve got Korea and Japan working together, I put AUKUS together, anyway!'”
“First of all, I think you’re dead wrong on national security. You saw what happened recently in terms of the meeting we had with NATO. I put NATO together. Name me a foreign leader who thinks I’m not the most effective leader in the world on foreign policy,” the president was quoted as saying. “Tell me! Tell me who the hell that is! Tell me who put NATO back together! Tell me who enlarged NATO, tell me who did the Pacific basin.”
When Crow reportedly pushed back that Biden’s sell wasn’t “breaking through to voters,” the party leader was said to have responded, “You oughta talk about it! On national security, nobody has been a better president than I’ve been. Name me one. Name me one! So I don’t want to hear that crap!”
Summing up the congressman’s combat record, National Review Senior Political Correspondent Jim Geraghty posted, “For those not familiar with Congressman Jason Crow, he served in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, ‘leading a platoon of paratroopers during the invasion of Iraq and earned the Bronze Star for his combat actions during the invasion. Shortly after returning from Iraq, he joined the Army’s elite 75th Ranger Regiment, serving two additional tours — this time in Afghanistan, as part of the Joint Special Operations Task Force, where Jason served along the Pakistan border.'”
“Just doesn’t seem like the kind of guy I’d snap at or mock on a conference call,” added Geraghty, “but hey, that’s just me.”

While it remained to be seen how the Democrat Party would proceed with their election strategy as Biden himself had already done a U-turn on his call to “lower the temperature,” for the time being it was clear that members were willing to stand by after the latest example of the president’s concerning state.
“Had the assassination attempt not occurred an hour later, I imagine 50 people on that Zoom were ready to come out publicly against him,” one Democrat told Puck.
Drawing attention to the report, The Spectator Contributing Editor Stephen L. Miller wondered at the silence from the same corporate media outlets that had been calling for Biden to step down before shots were fired at Trump.
“Biden went after the Bronze Star service of a combat veteran, on record, with eyewitnesses and suddenly CNN, The NY Times and @JeffreyGoldberg are uninterested,” wrote Miller.

Meanwhile, hours later, Trump reportedly told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl that Biden struck a completely different tone with him as the GOP leader said the incumbent was “very nice” when he called to see how his rival was doing. “He couldn’t have been nicer.”
Likewise, Biden told NBC News’ Lester Holt about the call with Trump, “I told him how concerned I was and wanted to make sure I knew how he was actually doing. He sounded good. He said he was fine. And he thanked me for calling him. I told him he was literally in the prayers of [First Lady Jill Biden] and me, and I hoped his whole family was weathering this.”
