Biden-Trump 2024 rematch favors Trump, poll says

The results of a new poll may favor former President Donald Trump in a rematch with President Joe Biden for 2024, but respondents’ opinion on the prospect of such a contest left the frontrunner calling out “corrupt, wrong, or incompetent” pollsters.

With more than a week remaining before former ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley officially announces her candidacy, Trump has remained the only player in the field for the Republicans for nearly three months. Should Biden run for reelection as many expect, the likelihood is strong they would face off once more and, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll, Trump has the advantage.

After asking just over 1,000 people between Jan. 27 and Feb. 1 who they would pick between the two, the former president had a three-point advantage over his successor at 48 to 45 percent. The gap was even more so in the case of the crucial independent vote that saw Trump up by nine points over Biden at 50 to 41 percent.

However, both leaders were met with majority net negatives when it came to the question of how respondents would feel if they were elected in 2024. as 20 percent said they would be dissatisfied but not angry while 36 percent said they would be angry if Trump were voted in as president once more. Those numbers were 32 and 30 percent for Biden whose net negative came to nearly two-thirds of respondents not wanting to see him in office still come 2025.

While it would be easy to dismiss the net negatives as stemming from partisan respondents, the most telling numbers for Biden and Trump actually came from the net positives of their own parties. When voters identified as Democrats were asked how they would feel about Biden being reelected, he received a net positive of 78 percent, but only 22 percent were “enthusiastic” while the remaining 55 percent would be “satisfied but not enthusiastic.”

Likewise, Trump had a net positive of 83 percent among Republican respondents with greater enthusiasm at 42 percent but still had 41 percent only satisfied, indicating they would rather see someone else take the Republican nomination all the way to the White House.

As the data from the poll began to circulate, Trump took to Truth Social with some choice comments on the practice of polling and the outlets that were drumming up narratives against his campaign.

“For all of my many supporters, and the number is higher than ever before, I am pleased to report that ‘our’ Poll numbers are Excellent,” he wrote Sunday. “Polls are important, but many have proven to be so corrupt, wrong, or incompetent in the past, especially, those of ABC FAKE NEWS/WASHINGTON COMPOST; FOX FAKE NEWS; and NBC FAKE NEWS/GLOBALIST STREET JOURNAL, that they have become somewhat meaningless, just a political weapon. CNN Polls no longer matter in that so few people are watching CNN (and MSDNC) anymore!”

It remains to be seen who if anyone, will put up a serious contest against the dueling commanders-in-chief, but what was known from the poll was Biden boasted net negatives across the board as 53 percent of respondents disapproved of his overall performance, 58 percent disapproved of his job on the economy and 68 percent were a “NET Less confident” that he could “make the right decisions for the country’s future.”
