‘Biden’s Hurricane Hoax’: Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick calls out POTUS over using storm to score points

Hurricane management allegedly prompted a partisan hoax readily batted down by Texan leaders: “Mr. President, as you like to say, ‘C’mon, man!'”

No low was evidently too low for President Joe Biden and his allies as he suffered one of the worst political weeks of his decades-long career. In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, which left nearly 2 million Texans without power amid dangerously high temperatures, the choice between leadership and scoring “political points” had the resident-in-chief evidently opting for the latter.

Taking to X Wednesday morning, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) released a statement aimed at exposing a claim made by Biden in an interview with the Houston Chronicle. While the president reported having spoken to both Houston Mayor John Whitmire (D) and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo (D), whose office oversees emergency management, he suggested he’d been unable to reach Gov. Greg Abbott (R) or Patrick to authorize an emergency declaration, “I’ve been trying to track down the governor to see — I don’t have any authority to do that without a specific request from the governor.”

Patrick explained how the Chronicle had sought the call log regarding the conversation with the president and how, for an unknown reason, Biden had reached out to Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd instead of himself or Abbott, who was away on an economic development trip in Asia.

“I spoke to the president from 11:49 a.m. to 11:52 a.m. on Chief Kidd’s phone,” wrote the lieutenant governor who went on to state, “The reason they called Chief Kidd was puzzling to me since they had just been given my cell phone number. @FEMA had called a TDEM employee roughly 10 minutes before my call with the president asking for my personal phone number. My team gave FEMA my cell number and my chief of staff’s phone number. Yet, the president still called Chief Kidd’s phone 10 minutes later instead of calling…me.”

“I spent all weekend working alongside FEMA employees at the State Operations Center in Austin. They are good men and women, but they never said the president was trying to reach me,” he went on as he tacked on to an earlier reaction expressing how he was “disappointed” Biden was treating the hurricane as “a political issue.”

“Gov. Abbott did not hear from the president during Hurricane Beryl either. Gov. Abbott tweeted that the president has his phone number and called him as recently as Memorial Day. But, he did not call Abbott either during the hurricane,” stated Patrick.

Abbott posted from his personal X account, “Biden’s memory fails again. Not once did he call me during Beryl. He has my number & called me on Memorial Day after tornadoes hit Texas. I’ve had daily calls with state & local officials during Beryl. I spoke with FEMA Admin while on our trade mission but Biden never called.”

“To suggest that the president could not find me or the governor is ridiculous. The bottom line is this: I asked for a federal disaster declaration at the proper time without delay and the president agreed. Sadly, President Biden is attacking Gov. Abbott and me, trying to score political points, for reasons that make no sense,” concluded Patrick. “Mr. President, as you like to say, ‘C’mon, man!'”

Abbott’s questioning of Biden’s memory came amid growing concerns from the president’s own party that he should step aside as one neurologist even contended it was indisputable that the octogenarian was suffering from a neurodegenerative disease.
