Blue state mulls subsidizing illegal aliens’ cellphone bills

Illegal aliens in California could soon see another freebie in the form of a reduction in their cellphone bills under a new proposal that is getting national attention less than two months before the election.

The state’s Public Utilities Commission is set for a September 26 vote on the first-in-the-nation proposal which will eliminate the required use of Social Security numbers to qualify for the California LifeLine program which subsidizes cellphone bills for low-income residents.

“If an undocumented Californian falls on hard times, they should benefit from this program, just like every other Californian,” Utilities Commission President Alice Reynolds said, according to Politico which noted the “awkward” timing of the vote, an optics problem for Democrat nominee Kamala Harris who hails from the Golden State.

The commission agreed to drop the requirement a decade ago but never took action. Now it’s back in public view at a time when Harris and her handlers are engaged in a gaslighting campaign to mislead the public that she’s tough on illegal immigration despite her job as “border czar” at a time when millions of illegals have been allowed to invade the country, a major election issue.

“Yet the vote comes as many national Democrats — including Vice President Kamala Harris — have tacked right on immigration and border security to neutralize a political weakness that Republicans and former President Donald Trump have tried to exploit as Election Day approaches,” Politico, an outlet that has an obvious pro-Democrat slant, points out.

“If you’re down on your luck and we want to give you a hand up, not a handout, I’m for it,” said Republican State Sen. Brian Dahle. “But to just continue to strap the everyday taxpayer with giving away assistance to people who haven’t paid into the system? I’m opposed.”

“Another item in a long list of free taxpayer giveaways for illegal immigrants who don’t even have to prove they’ve paid into the system,” said Republican California Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones. “Once again, California is sending a message to the rest of the world to come here illegally and receive their free gift, this time it’s discounted phones.”

California has been a national trendsetter when it comes to free stuff for illegals but the installation of favorite daughter Harris as the Democrat nominee after the palace coup against Joe Biden orchestrated by fellow Californian Nancy Pelosi has led state politicians to publicly back away from some of the more audacious proposals.

Governor Gavin Newsom just vetoed a controversial bill that would have provided up to $150,000 to illegal aliens for home loans, legislation that made national headlines.

According to Politico, “California LifeLine offers low-income state residents participating in the program up to $19 off their monthly cell service, up to $39 off a phone service connection and exemptions from some state, federal and local fees. California’s program is offered alongside a federal LifeLine discount that offers customers up to an additional $9.25 off their monthly bill.”

Illegal aliens applying for the program would still have to provide some other form of identification such as a driver’s license or passport, the outlet reported.
