Bodycam shows citizens’ dramatic rescue of injured cop from his burning vehicle

Bodycam video captured the moment an Atlanta officer was rescued from his own burning vehicle by good Samaritans.

Officer Malik Safi was badly injured after crashing into a home while trying to respond to a fellow officer’s call on October 20. He reportedly lost control of his squad car, and the resulting crash caused the vehicle to explode into flames. Luckily for Officer Safi, brothers Ryan Beck and Kashun Robinson were nearby and ran to the car to provide assistance, even helping as a firearm in the car began to discharge.

“We just went off our hearts,” Beck explained of the rescue. “Like, went off our heart like we were raised. We don’t want to see nobody suffering in that type of situation. So we just hopped out and sprung into action.”

“We’re just trying to comfort him and let him know he’s not by himself. One of his guns in the car actually started going off. We put him out of the yard and onto the sidewalk, and everybody was just ducked behind the trees and everything,” Robinson added.

A woman can be heard in the video calling for help for the officer.

“We have an officer down. Officer S-A-F-I. On North Avenue. Yeah, hurry up, he’s been in a wreck. His leg is broken,” she said, relaying the urgency of the situation to dispatchers.

The officer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering.
