Border Patrol defends viral video of agent cutting razor wire to let illegal immigrants into Texas

A viral video of a U.S. Border Patrol agent cutting through a razor wire fence on private property in order to allow illegal aliens to enter into the country sparked outrage after it was shared on Twitter, raising questions about the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis which has spun completely out of control since Democrats took control of the White House.

The footage was taken in Eagle Pass, Texas, and posted to Twitter on Friday by Fox News reporter Bill Melugin who has tirelessly chronicled the humanitarian catastrophe at the border for years — Melugin is perhaps the leading national correspondent on an issue that has had ruinous consequences for America which has been overrun with migrants, criminals and deadly fentanyl.

In the video, the CBP agent is seen opening up the protective wire barrier on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande River as more than a dozen people pass through and the motorboat that brought them, likely driven by a human smuggler, revs the engine and speeds away back to Mexico without being detained, possibly to pick up another boatload of migrants.

“Video from source in Eagle Pass shows Border Patrol cutting through razor wire placed by the state of TX to allow migrants to enter & be processed after crossing illegally,” he wrote. “@TxDPS tells me this is the first time they know of this happening, and that it’s being looked into for potential destruction of TX property. The federal government’s position is that once migrants are on U.S. soil, under U.S. law, they need to be processed, and cannot be repelled or turned away. Texas is taking a much different approach, and has been physically blocking migrants under orders from Governor @GregAbbott_TX.”

“TXDPS tells me the location this video was shot at is private property, and that they have permission from the owner to lay down razor wire and arrest migrants for criminal trespassing. This Border Patrol agent is likely just doing what he’s been told – but this will likely lead to more friction between TX & the Feds, who have drastically different approaches at the border,” he added.

Melugin’s video got the attention of at least one Republican lawmaker with Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) asking “What the hell?”

“I’m going to assume for now that this particular CBP agent is following orders that he hates following. Either way, the Biden Administration is now destroying Texas property to fulfill an open border agenda. Texas must respond,” he tweeted.

“It is a federal responsibility to enforce U.S. immigration laws. U.S. Border Patrol continues to enforce U.S. immigration laws,” the Border Patrol said in a statement. “The individuals had already crossed the Rio Grande from Mexico, were on U.S. soil, and are subject to U.S. immigration laws. Individuals who cross unlawfully will be subject to the lawful pathways rule, which places common-sense conditions on asylum eligibility, with certain exceptions. Those who do not establish a legal basis to remain in the United States will be removed.”
