Boston Globe brands hometown boy Ben Affleck as a ‘white liberal’ who hides the truth about racism

Ben Affleck’s hometown paper The Boston Globe is painting the actor as a “white liberal” who hides the truth about racism because years ago he had a PBS series censor the fact that there were slave owners in his family tree.

A year after that occurred, Affleck, 50, apologized for doing so but leftists have not forgotten and are resurrecting the issue to smear him.

The Boston Globe’s columnist Renée Graham wrote an opinion piece titled, “Ben Affleck and white liberals’ discomfort with Black history,” which was published on Tuesday.

She dug up Affleck’s 2014 “Finding Your Roots” episode that aired on PBS. It purposely left out a clip when the actor found out about his slavery roots ostensibly because he was embarrassed over the issue.

The author excoriated him for allegedly attempting to protect his family by requesting that the clip be removed. She outrageously stated that Affleck “silently [endorses] a white supremacist history of this nation.”

“Instead of reckoning with a truth that has tainted the marrow of this nation — long before it was a nation — for more than four centuries, Affleck chose to protect his small piece of the white purity myth,” Graham charged.

The actor is a staunch liberal. He campaigns for leftist causes and is a former resident of Massachusetts. The Daily Mail revealed in 2015 that he had asked PBS producers to cut the clip about his family history.

“It gives me kind of a sagging feeling to see, uh, a biological relationship to that. But, you know, there it is, part of our history,” Affleck ostensibly said in the cut segment, according to Graham.

Affleck issued a groveling apology on social media in 2015 over his family’s exposed history, saying, “After an exhaustive search of my ancestry for Finding Your Roots, it was discovered that one of my distant relatives was an owner of slaves. I didn’t want any television show about my family to include a guy who owned slaves. I was embarrassed. The very thought left a bad taste in my mouth.”

“It’s important to remember that this isn’t a news program. Finding Your Roots is a show where you voluntarily provide a great deal of information about your family, making you quite vulnerable. The assumption is that they will never be dishonest but they will respect your willingness to participate and not look to include things you think would embarrass your family,” he continued.

“I regret my initial thoughts that the issue of slavery not be included in the story. We deserve neither credit nor blame for our ancestors and the degree of interest in this story suggests that we are, as a nation, still grappling with the terrible legacy of slavery. It is an examination well worth continuing. I am glad that my story, however indirectly, will contribute to that discussion. While I don’t like that the guy is an ancestor, I am happy that aspect of our country’s history is being talked about,” Affleck concluded.

Eight years after that cringy apology, the Boston Globe writer brought it back into the public eye claiming that Affleck not owning up to history only sets the country back.

“Honest conversations about this nation’s origin story are now met with derision and backlash,” Graham asserted. “With each move away from the truth we drag it along and what remains unspoken and unresolved weighs this nation down.”

Affleck never expressed discomfort with black history but that didn’t stop Graham from claiming he felt that way. And evidently, nothing can ever be forgiven by purists on the left.

The slave owner in Affleck’s family tree was “Benjamin Cole” of Georgia, an ancestor on his mother’s side, according to the actor. Ironically, his mother, Chris Anne, was a Freedom Rider.
